Hi,

Does anyone know what the differences are between the GL-300A and the GL-300B models of controller are ?

Also, does anyone have any idea of when the GL-300B model was introduced - I've just bought my P3P and thought it would have been the latest model but mine's a 300A.

They are identical but support multiple models - have the same or similar appearance, structure, PCB, material and functions except:
1. GL300B doesn't have the video processor TMS320DM368 Video SoC and its additional circuit.
2. GL300B deletes CY7C68013 High-Speed USB Peripheral Controller and replaces it with a CYUSB2014 SuperSpeed USB Controller
3. GL300B adds CW2015CWAD for power estimating.
No sure where the GL300B s used, almost sounds like it may have been for the Advanced Model.

Many thanks for the info it's much appreciated. I'm just wondering what model other members have and whether as you allude to, the GL-300B is for the Phantom 3 Advanced. From your description it would appear that the 300B model uses faster circuitry ? Just wondering what impact that would have on overall flying experience compared to the 300A model. If the 300B has had the video processing circuit removed, then I'm assuming the tablet or phone will have to do all the processing, perhaps that's why they have substituted a faster USB controller chip to move the video data to the tablet/phone a bit quicker.

I'm wondering if this is why the Advanced won't do UHD video due to the fact that DJI have not installed the video processing chip ? If this is correct then perhaps swapping the 300B model for the 300A model may be the answer.

No input as to who has the 300A and 300B controllers and which bird they have, either P3P or P3A ?

Mine's a P3P with the 300A controller

I have a P3A and my remote is a 300B.
Another difference is that the 300A is able to upgrade to the last fw (1.2.6) while 300B is not (1.2.8).
It seems that P3A people has to wait for the next fw.

Hi all,

I was perhaps expecting the 300A model to be for the P3P and the 300B model for the P3A but that's obviously not the case. Had it been then that may have explained the reason why the P3A doesn't capture 4K video.  I did email DJI to see if they could shed any light on the differences and this is the email I got back...

For GL300B, we can not do upgrade yet .
Its upgrade can only be done through pilot app but not through usb port.
Except that, they are nearly the same.

How can you find out if you have a A or B?

Model Number is on the bottom front with the FCC certification

Yes, just received it on Tuesday.

The GL300B has USB 3.0 while our GL300A has USB 2.0..... This thread also means that they found that they didn't need the video processor TMS320DM368 Video SoC or we aren't using it so they cut the costs ;-)

So we can conclude that the new P3s ship with the B spec remote controller? So they castrated the new controllers a bit and adding USB 3.0 The only concern i always have when those things happen is why they changed it, only because of cost reduction or maybe because of some sort of hardware flaw. I hope this is not the case. Why the old controller has the video processor TMS320DM368 Video SoC ?

Since the main video is recorded directly to the camera sd card, the processor on the controller could only be used for generating the hd video for the usb. I would guess that controller would do a real time compression of the video for the tablet/phone and also to compress it if you have video cacheing installed. By installing the faster usb they probably decided they did not need the extra video processing and so removed that hardware to save costs with the probably cheaper faster USB controller. I would also imagine there would be a heat/power savings.

The remote does not control the 4k or 1080 video, it has been proven that changing the camera and gimbal and then changing the firmware you can upgrade a P3A to a P3P. It would not make sense to use the controller for any kind of video processing. The video is encoded and saved directly to the SD card on the camera and not transmitted live. LightBridge does not have that kind of bandwidth. It only has the bandwidth for a lower res hd video, the 720p.

I ordered the first day the P3A was available and got a GL300-A.  Second order for P3A was on 5-19-15 and I also got  the GL300-A.

Just got a P3P the other day, and the -A is what I got...  Either way, I'm assuming the difference is in that box at the back/top?  I'll be replacing it with the HDMI board soon anyways.

So would we say the gl300a is the better controller ?  I've never had any overheating issue with the A version

Bought a P3P early June - 300A. Bought another last week - 300B.

I plan to get one of the Controllers with DBElite. But which one?

The C model primarily includes manufacturing and QA improvements to the RC and is similar to the B model in technical design.

Discussions on various forums indicate slight differences in transmitter power between the C and B models, but all three controller models are well within the specs for the Phantom 3 Max transmission range and RC transmitter power (EIRP). Our Phantom RC transmits control stick movements to the aircraft.

Realize that video transmission is controlled by the AIRCRAFT transmitter and is received by the RC. So any RC transmitter changes will not affect video ranges.......

Sorry, I don't have that information!!
Often, heat is the issue with the wifi module and hopefully you've seen this video:



In the US,
Amazon has the OEM replacement Wifi Module if you click here...
IntelligenUAS has it slightly cheaper here if you click this link....
I'm sure there are similar European vendors that will also carry the replacement.
I don't see any DJI Service Centers in Albania, but you might check to see if there are any local UAS vendors.

P3P bought on 12/12/2015 from Best Buy in Charlotte NC.  It came with the GL300B controller.  Which BTW, the plastic is disintegrating on the inside so the screws that hold the stick, dials and buttons have failed.  Come to find out there's a lot of folks out there with the same issue where the plastic is brittle and disintegrates.  So if you hear "stuff" rattling around in your controller....... be sure to check out the following forums:

My B controller has parts rattling around inside and the antenna mounts broke. Besides this, I've never had any controller issues itself. I got it in 2014 as part of a kit from Drone-world. com. I ordered a new remote before I knew there was a difference and got a C model. Will the C have the same range as the A? The A had incredible range. Thank you!

Not sure why nobody answered this simple question.  No, the C won't get the same range as the A.
