I have a DJI2 mini 2 with the updates. Yesterday i was flying using my IPHONE, I triggered the RTH feature on my phone using the app. As the drone was coming home, the phone died! The drone hoovered overhead and never autolanded. I pressed the RTH feature on the remote, and nothing happened. I had to land manually.
Question:
IF I fly the drone ONLY with the remote, and use the Remote RTH feature...
1) How long do I press this button? (I see it has a pause feature too)
2) Will the remote beep continuosly after the RTH is triggered as the phone does?
3) Will it autoland?

Thank you!

Hi Mike,

RTH from your smart phone or RTH from the controller is exactly the same.

If you trigger RTH within 20 m from the registered RTH spot, the drone will hover, not land.

Hitting the  RTH/pause button shortly it will pause what you were doing at that time. So, short push while it is doing a RTH will stop the action and the drone will hover.
Long press and you will start hearing the beeping sound (with or without phone) and the drone will RTH.

with or without smart phone, it should autoland.

The Fly app on the phone might give some extra functionalities, but basic flight functions are done by the controller.

When it doesn't want to land or it was within 20m or the pause was pressed during the RTH process, the only thing that can be done is to pull down the left stick. Once the landing procedure starts you can return the stick to the middle position.

Be aware that a couple of seconds go by between lowering from RTH and the actual landing. It hovers a couple of seconds.
If you say "hovering" you mean about 2m above the ground? The drone comes down from its RTH height, diesn't he?

Hey Thanks again for ur reply....but i'll go over in detail what happened.
1) I was flying the drone with an Iphone and the app
2) About 1000 feet away from me, I pressed the RTH feature on the app and the drone climbed to the RTH altitude I set then started to head home.
3) While it was heading home, my cell phone died
4) the drone continued to come home, but when it got overhead at the RTH altitude of 350 feet it just hoovered
5) I pressed the RTH on the remote thinking it now will autoland, and all i heard was a short beep and then then beep stopped as soon as i took my finger off the button and nothing happened.
6) So I manually landed it...

Question: So what u are saying is IF I pulled the left stick down for a few seconds then released, it would autoland without further input?

You stopped automatic RTH by pressing the button again.

A short press means air brake in most conditions. The only exception is during forced landing on low battery state. Which means, whenever you press this button, your drone stops what it's doing and hovers right where it is at.

To activate RTH, long press the button until you hear multiple beeps coming from your remote.

Will the beeps continue after releasing the button?

it will until the RTH procedure ends. You don't have to keep pressing the button. Once it starts RTH and the anoying beep starts you can release the button.

Perhaps post your flight log to airdata.com and share it here,  it should be able to tell exactly what happened.

Hello there MikeT. Good day and thank you for reaching out. For additional reference the Return to Home (RTH) function brings the aircraft back to the last recorded Home Point and lands when the GPS is signal is strong. There are three types of RTH: Smart RTH, Low Battery RTH, and Failsafe RTH. The said DJI Drone successfully recorded the home point and the GPS signal is strong, the RTH will be triggered when either the user starts Smart RTH, the aircraft battery level is low, or the signal between the remote controller and the is lost. RTH will also be triggered in other abnormal scenarios such as if there is a loss of video transmission. Thank you.

Sometimes the drone does not want to land at the Home Point due to detecting a non-landing surface, e.g. grass. Then a message will appear that you need to land manually elsewhere. This is something that bothers me a lot at times, and I would gladly turn this option off. Unfortunately, I don't know which parameter number is responsible for this.
