I have been watching a lot of videos on color grading and this was my first real attempt. Any feedback good or bad would be nice. I used davinci resolve and sony vegas. This video was shot on auto.  Im learning how to set the exposure myself so my next footage should get even better.

Personal opinion (I'm far from an expert in these maters) I think there is a little to much saturation as the greens are very strong and the blues are a little over the top as well.
Like I said, just personal opinion.

BTW, need to adjust gimbal roll as the tilted horizon is very distracting.

Thanks for the input. Since I've shot these I've done a  calibration so the horizon is level. Its only been a couple weeks with this so its a lot to learn. This is my first venture into photography or videography.

Using Resolve for P3 video is not necessary and could make it worse if you shoot video in auto mode. P3 video at 8bit and with limited dynamic range of around 10 stops at best is not suitable for high-end color grading platforms like Resolve. I use Resolve daily but I am shooting 12bit 15stop DR ProRes 444 or 422 footage or Raw video. With my P3 footage I use FCPX and the Colorista 3 plugin which is more than enough.

The first color work is your white balance in the camera settings - never use this on Auto - set this to daytime such at 5200 to 6000. Then all you need is to set correct highlights and shadows in your editor (Vegas or FCPX or Premier). That is it. Setting exposure will affect saturation - you do not need to boost saturation in most cases such as your video (unless it is for an effect).

would you recommend using log with minus contrast/saturation/sharpness then following your above tips?  or just using the "none" color profile on the p3?

What settings did you use when shooting the video on the Phantom?

By the way, I've written an ebook with Tips & Tricks for aerial videography with the Phantom 3. You can download it from here
