hi, I've just got a 2nd Lightbridge groundstation.
Can I connect the gimbal RC to the 2nd groundstation to get rid of the cable between the operators?
Or do I have to use the 5.8 GHz RC?

You cannot.  So yes 5.8 is a viable option.
