Hi all

I flew yesterday with 1.5.1 with my Mini 2 and my S21 phone with no issues. Last night I upgraded my phone to Android 12.

Today the combination refused to show any video back to the fly app. The image was either static or black. However the direction indicators, the settings and even the camera worked fine. I had good GPS count.  No I was not set to 4K video.


I then took off 'blind' as an experiment and all worked fine, but no video return feed to the controller. I could take pictures, I could fly using VLOS. RTH worked fine. I then tried a full restart of phone, controller and Mini2 with the same result.

Has anyone run DJI FLY with Android 12 successfully?


It looks to me like the DJI Fly app is currently not working with Android 12, certainly on my S21. Hopefully only temporarily.

Be aware when offered upgrade.

Must be Android 12. My S21 Ultra updated Wednesday and  now I have to log in to Fly every time. But it works fine.

The problems are with the samsung Exynos chipset, not the snapdragon chipset.

At the moment DJI has not responded, the only thing they say is that you buy another mobile from their list of compatible mobiles .....

A solution that is not at all aligned with your customers.

You cannot expect a client to exchange a € 1200 mobile for another, with the salary of a person, and yet a company that bills 3000 million dollars a year is not able to buy a € 1200 mobile to test with it. ........ incredible......

I think this is a new issue.

I have flown since 1.4.8 successfully with the S21 Ultra. No black screens and no issues. I am aware the old 4k black screen issue was fixed.

What I think this is is an incompatability with Android 12. It was fine with 1.5.1 and Android 11 yesterday. The only thing changed today was Android 12.

I've flown the same drone and same controller with a borrowed S8 later today with 1.5.1 and  Android 11 with no issues.

Same here... The hardware isn't the issue... It's the compatibility with a new OS.

You said your 21 updated, do you mean Fly app or to Android 12?
You will have the Snapdragon chip too as you're in the US?

I dont know why the Europe has to put up with the lesser chip yet we pay more, whats that all about? I bet its sommat to do with stupid EU laws?

In the S20 ultra they put the Exynos processor, while my cheaper S20fe 5G got the snapdragon.

What's the better processor? Don't know. The S20 ultra also had problems with the Fly app, just as the S21 ultra.
My cheaper S20fe works fine with Fly.

It's more about compatibilty than having the best processor in your gsm.

From what I saw, benchmark tests prove the Snapdragon was on top, granted it was mostly for games whilst they both were fairly equal elsewhere but still, that makes it better IMO

The S21 Ultra vs 21 FE chipsets are not comparable in the sense that you're looking at, your lower-cost FE got the lower-spec Snapdragon 865 5g whilst the Ultra got the 888 and the FE only came with the Snapdragon, not to mention that it was cheaper on other aspects, not the chipset, FYI, I am going on what i read at the time and I had to look up the specs just now to confirm

Have you upgraded to Android 12 yet? does it work ok with the Fly app?

Fly app is not compatible with Android 12.

Theres been hundreds of reports here that Android 12 is not working with most of the dji apps.

I am sure DJI are on it, give it a year or so...

Yes, upon further investigation, I do have the Snapdragon chip.

I have a S21 Ultra, 512 gig ram. Just updated to Android 12. The only problem I have noted is the Fly app will not stay logged in. I must log in each time. It works fine. I never reset my gimbal so don't know if that works, but everything else works fine. Also, the AE lock is back. Touch the screen and the little circle somes up. Long press it and it locks.

Yes, thats why i asked, so its not limited to the Exynos chip then, also the person below you has the 512gb version and its works pretty much ok for them, so another conundrum :/

Im not getting the invite to the Beta for the Note 20 Ultra 5G like some in the UK, so not fair, would love to know if Fly app works with it or not, i have the Tab S2 to fall back on if it goes Pete Tong

I saw the upgrade to Android 12 for my phone is only planned for january. So, no problems with Fly and the new Android OS version yet for me.
Most of the time I fly the drone with the SC.

It looks like for me at least on A12 with the S21U (Exynos) that if you record video, it will display the feed. As soon as your stop recording it will just revert back to black screen.

This obviously is not ideal for editing and also for framing photos and adjusting manual settings. So will only be useful in auto mode video recording as an interim solution to our devices being a brick.

That can't be the entire truth. I have a Pixel 5 and yes, the moment I upgraded to Android 12, the DJI Fly app did terminate the second I started it. Hence it was not able to do an upgrade. So I installed the 1.5.1 app manually (via downloading the apk from the DJI web site) and from then on it worked.

Don't have to login again, video downfeed is fine.

No sadly not,   there was a beta for Android 12 but that stopped working and then they pulled it.

I think youre very lucky,   Pixel 5 isnt even an approved phone.

Pixel 5 here with Android 12 and Dji Fly 1.5.1, no problems.

What's the better processor? Don't know. The S20 ultra also had problems with the Fly app, just as the S21 ultra.

My S20 Ultra 5G has the snapdragon. US. Android 11. No issues but I'll be holding off on any updates to Android 12 because of this.

Probably has a lot to do with the fact that you did a clean install. This is what I tell people all the time don't use the update feature in the app. I'll install the entire thing delete everything and then install it fresh.

That's a good idea. It is what I mostly do. When I see the update mentioned, I go to the website and try to get the latests from there. But the last couple of updates, the latests version is not available on the DJI website.
For example: at the moment you can download 1.5.0 from their website and then getting 1.5.1 installing from the app. It also happened with the former 1.4.8.
I like to keep some of the former version on one of my pc's, in case I have to reinstall a former one.
