A rejig of my work schedule, and I was in Ely this morning.
The light was beautiful and so I managed to catch a few trains passing Ely!
This is the new British Rail Class 755[5], a bi-mode train that runs from Stansted Airport to Norwich.\
They have a diesel engine for the journey to Norwich from Ely, but use an arm to take electricery from the supply above the track from Stansted to Ely!
Inside they are much nicer than the trains they replaced, with USB power to the seats, and a lower floor for no step access.

Hard to beat Ely Cathedral!

What a splendid view!  Oh, and a train for  @Montfrooij

Mine are not anywhere near his standard though, I do not have the skills he has, nor the dedication to set up two cameras and then edit...and when Peacock's tea room opens with the promise of coffee and their mocca cake...., I'm did someone say cake?

You were in France, was it Brexit that brought you back to the UK?
I've spent two short holidays at the Astrofarm in France just outside Confolens, which was a lovely town...The local sports bar would serve toasties with table wine that was just so much nicer than the stuff here. The weather was kinder and the skies clearer too. I miss those days

The Charente was a good bit further south than us. We were in the Mayenne.  And yes, Brexit was a factor in our decision to repatriate after 15 years. Covid put the tin lid on it.
Our local bar/restaurant was the hub of our village, where eveyone met up. Just 400-odd souls so everyone knew everyone else.

I know France has its fair share of challenges in the cities, especially, but in the countryside…one of the local farmers I was chatting to was telling me that in the cities the neighbours would look to see who had the newer / nicer car, whereas in the countryside it was who had the better, more seasoned logs for use in the winter….

Log stacking was raised to an art form around us. The end-on face of each cord of wood would display a wagon wheel, or a fleur de lys, in different coloured wood. I made sure ours was hidden from view at the far end of the garden

It's taken a while, but glad they are when you've spent a morning flying...The Uni buses at Southampton (my son was there) have wooden effect flooring and usb power to EACH seat...make our First Counties here look terrible...

Well if you visit the UK and Ely, it's a hub, so plenty of train action from three passenger railways and the freight trains - possibly going Northwards or to Felixstowe
