Please share what 4K TV model you guys are using to display your 4K footage (via USB drive). I just purchased a 2015 Vizio 4K TV, but it doesn't support .mov of any kind or 4k MP4 video. Both of which are pretty standard formats I thought. The only video i've been able to play is 1080p MP4 video. So just to recap...it doesn't recoginze .mov at all and it plays 1080p MP4 but not 4K MP4. I get a "video format not supported" error message when trying to play MP4 4K.

I use a 55" Samsung Curved UHD TV HU7100 (UE55HU7100S) works very good.

try connect the tv to the internet. maybe there is a software or firmware update solving this problem. my samsung already got a lot of software updates since purchase in dezember 2014.

Tested with 4k Video files from Gopro Hero 4 Black and also with Inspire 4k video files.

kinds regards
Stefan

.mov is apple crapple video format, its not surprising your tv wont recognize it.  I would think mp4 would work though, maybe a codec issue, vizio is a cheaper brand and probably doesnt have all the features that the top end brands do in order to cut costs.  Might get lucky with an internet update though, if not id try to contact vizio and make them aware of the issue and perhaps they could fix it in a future update.

This is from the video recording section of my Panasonic GX7 camera manual:

[AVCHD] This data format is suitable for when playing back on a
high-definition TV, etc.

[MP4] This data format is suitable for when playing back on a PC, etc.

I suppose it's possible you have a TV that only plays AVCHD video and not MP4?

he said it plays 1080p mp4 just not 4k mp4, likely its just not up to date or lacks the hardware to do 4k from a usb.  cheaper hardware is cheap for a reason, they use slower lower quality components or dont offer as many features as the top end brands.

It's actually a professional broadcast format as well as being used in the most demanding and highest quality video distribution so describing it as apple crapple is frankly insulting.

Now you're just being naive so will leave it at that.

Nonsense, it's a well documented fact.  Not too get too far off topic but Android phones are 2-3 years ahead of Apple feature wise. All the new features the iPhone 6 got were on Android 3 years before its release and current android devices have abilities Apple won't see for another 3 years. The computers have gotten better I think, haven't been following them lately. They didn't used to be upgradable and their os was far less functional than Windows. If all you wanna do is browse the web or make a phone call then Apple will work fine but if you're a tech geek and like playing with the best tech with the most features then Apple is very sub par compared to the other options.

The first iPhone was revolutionary indeed but they were quickly surpassed by the competition and very slow to improve their product. Facts are facts my friend, too bad there are none supporting your side of the discussion.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're not a TV professional.  .mov is considered a high end codec in the business.

My understanding was that both the "mp4" and "mov" ...

you are 100% correct.  they are just different containers for the same codec, and one might argue that mp4 is a little better just cause it can hold more information related data tagging and is compatible with more devices, but they use the same codec and quality is the same.

i didnt meant to imply it wasnt good quality, just that being an apple native file its much less compatible with other devices than mp4 is.

They use same codec, same video quality. By data tagging I meant the info you see when you right click the file and go to properties. Don't know the exact differences, most people probably won't care. More for professional video people I think. Which I am not, use which ever one works best for your playback needs I'd say. If you have a Mac and iPads then you might like mov better, I don't know if Macs or iPads can play mp4s.

Can you please explain how can the quality of a High Res Mov file be the same as a m4v file.

When I render a video in FCP at the highest Mov setting of Apple Pro Res 4444 XQ the fie can be as big as 65GB but when rendered down to m4v its no where near this size at around the 33MB size, so how can it be the same quality.  Surely it looses some when it is being rendered down to m4v

From VIZIO support:  "Thank you, I understand you are wanting to play a 4K video through the USB port. The video will have to be HEVC H.265 in either .mkv or .mp4 or it will not play."

Does anyone know if the Inspire's camera can handle HEVC H.265?

Might be easier to plug laptop into tv and use as monitor, not sure if that would work though as I don't have a 4k tv but I would think it would if your laptop can output the signal correctly.

That would work if my laptop was capable. The budget 4K TV was a stopgap solution until I get my video editing rig. Which then I would use the TV as a big ass computer monitor.

fair enough, you must have an old laptop or an apple if you dont have an hdmi output on it, ive been taking advantage of that tech for years to stream netflix/amazon prime shows on my tv!  Sounds like converting to the required codec is your only option at this point then and thats a bit out of my expertise level.  Hope you get it working, i know how frustrating it is when you cant use its full potential.  Im having a hard time not going out and buying a 4k tv myself but im not a professional video guy and the only 4k source id have is the inspire videos.  Plus i just bought a sweet 70 inch 1080p tv a couple years ago for 4grand thats now worth less than half that.  Might have to upgrade the PC and monitor instead.

HEVC H.265 actually is the newest standard. Go figure a Vizio with the latest and greatest. Not sure why DJI decided not to support the newest codec standard with there current camera. I mean it was ratified in second quarter 2013.  X5 maybe?

no they arent, 4k is still a relatively new technology that afaik no one is broadcasting in yet, they still sell tons of 1080P tvs and you can tell by the price difference.  4k capable tv will be more expensive than a 1080 tv.

Hey there

If you shop at Costco, take a flash drive with one of your videos on it and have them play the file. I did this and it worked nicely on several of the new Samsung Ultra HD   And lots of people came over to watch and ask 100 questions... Great for Drone PR

It  seems that your TV can not afford DJI Inspire 4K videos well. You can have a try to downscale 4K videos into 1080p, which will make the 4K videos more compatible with your TV.
