Just got my P3 Pro.
Charged up the battery and controller.
Update the firmware and install the 4 props.
Now I just wanted to see if it would fire up.
I'm indoors so I did not want to fly it just yet but I wanted to see the motors run.
So I set it up on my kitchen counter and with one hand holding the drone down I fire it up.
Pretty cool all 4 props are running fine,great it works I'm happy. Okay now I go to turn it off.
Were is the off switch! I panic and reach for the battery to pull it out. OUCH! Big Mistake.

Bonding with my P3

Bonding with my P3

I now have prop guards on my P3 and know the correct way to turn off the motors.
Talk about learning the hard way.

Not the kind of gadget you want to just try and figure it out without reading the manual first like you do with your DVR or alarm clock. The manual will leave enough unanswered questions much less without not even reading it. I'm glad you still have all your fingers in operation (just guessing because you typed in a post?)

I agree. I'm the type of guy who just dives in or reads only the quick start instructions.
This MO did not work well in this case. I posted this as a warning to others like me to do
as you advise. READ the instructions first. This is not a toy. I have a new respect for this drone now.
Just had my first flight and I keep it in beginner mode. Nice flight,great drone.

Actually they said it wouldn't sever a head or limbs.  They also didn't test the P3, some smaller models and the octopus looking one that was homemade by their production crew.  But I digress, I'm glad you're OK and lesson learned for all of us.

(I wonder what Jamie would do to "modify" a P3 though!?!!)

I remember the day I had just got my Phantom and fired it up......

I had the props OFF

I'm stupid in that I will obsess on RTFM....like 20 times.   I didnt fly the stupid thing until about a month after I got it.To this day I STILL take print outs of the manual with me to the John and read the stuff again.   Sheesh!

On the other hand, I've lost no blood and all my flights so far have been successful .

Good luck with yours.

Thats four stitches, reminds me of putting my finger in front of the running propeller of my first ever model aircraft and it was a nitro powered airplane, i almost lost my finger and had to be rushed to the hospital to save it. But to this day i never have any guards at all on anything, If it spins stay away from it

I have seen people reach thru a prop on a nitro engine to adjust the needle, some of these guys had been flying since forever.

OUCH!!!
And I thought my first experience was bad.
I wanted to see how things worked before taking it out into the real world. Fired her up on my desk top and immediately plastered it to the ceiling.
The wife was not impressed.

My thoughts exactly. He made a painfull mistake, but I doubt many people would take pictures and share it with others.

@All Others,

Ha - glad you are okay.

Looking back at your original post, I see prop guards would have done you no good at all since they guard the outer periphery only -- grabbing the battery would have gotten the same results. I think the neighbors would have heard ME curse a blue streak!

PS: I use detachable prop guards just about all the time, HeHe. Nobody plans an accident, aye?

@EL SID,

by tying the lines between each pair of adjacent prop guards it makes a barrier, supposedly to keep quads from getting wrapped around a tree or someones leg or whatever you hopefully don't hit.
