My first video with the Phantom 3, with an opportunity to film wildlife. As a wildlife photographer, I am always cautious about causing disturbance to animal behaviour and approach slowly, always looking for changes in body language and behaviour. To my surprise the bears I photographed here were completly oblivious to the Phantom 3, pehaps it was just another mosquito, allowing for some great shots.

Easily the best, most interesting video I have seen on this site, with superb video editing.
But, it would be nice to know what was, and probably more important, what was not filmed with the P3.
Lots of out of focus backgrounds, focus pulling and other techniques that are impossible on the P3.

So more info please.

Beautiful work! I would like to know how you got the audio to go along with your Phantom footage? Like the overhead shots of the two whales where they are spouting off. It would seem if you had an additional mic it would pick up the Phantom rotor noise. Thanks

Hey Ulesse,
I'm not sure that so many people will recognise what has and has not been shot by the P3.  If these people think that they will be able to capture footage like this from the P3 they will be mighty disappointed.
The title implies that it was shot with the P3.
Maybe you could explain, and give your reasons?

- Underwater video : of course not the P3 (and maybe not even a GoPro)
- Underwater sound : some specialized submarine mic ?
- Some parts of the video with a blurred background : of course not the P3 which is absolutely unable to do this. At least a DSLR with high end lenses.

For me, only the aerials where filmed with the Phantom. Everything else with high end material.
Sidey is a pro, not only for filming but also to produce a high quality video. Just check the transition at 1:18 : a slow dissolve from an aerial shot and finish the movement of the whale's tail with another shot from another angle. Everything is so smooth !!!
The aerials mixed with the other clips is the cherish on the cake. Only ground clips or only aerials wouldn't have made it.

I love it! Keep doing this work!

Thanks for the feedback. Only the numerous aerial shots are with the P3, the remainder of the footage is shot with the 5DIII and a GoPro 4 Black for the underwater whales (including whale sounds). The audio is captured with a small shotgun mic mounted on an SLR.

Thanks. Of course no audio is captured from the P3 with all the noise attributed to the device - even though it is a quiet drone. The audio is captured from a mic mounted on an SLR and edited to precision timing with the shots.

The P3 is one of the many tools used to create a film like this. Sorry if the title mislead you. The film is approx. 50% P3, all the aerial footage of course.

Yes the glacier footage is the sawyer glacier in Tracy Arm. All those Alaskan glaciers and you picked it. I'm impressed!

I'm sure that explanation will help anyone realise that many tools were used in addition to the P3.  But the P3 stuff was very well shot and edited to make the whole production a beautiful view of our world.

One of the best yet.
To think back in the 80s I used to pack a full size VHS camera  (about the same size of the P3)around to video my kids. These hi-tech hi flying stabilized video cameras are amazing.

I have done similar shots (think sheep and hares instead of bears, lol) and its only the birdlife that wants to acknowlege or nteract with them and thats purely down to teritory.
