my mini 3 is saving mp4 videos but when I get home to take out the memory card , the videos don't play on windows media /video player.Except for VLC.

I tried to do some editing on Davinci Resolve, but I cannot even import the files that I recorded.
I think it may have something to do with needing to repair the video..  I tried turning on the drone and letting it stay on for a few minutes before powering off , and checked the sd card, but the videos are the same, it is visible on the computer, but it does not play when clicked upon.

I tried to recall and I think i have properly stopped recordings before turning off the drone for these clips..

help please.

D-Cinelike has nothing to do with free version of DaVinci.
Problem is that free version of DaVinci doesn't have the HEVC Codec (i.e. free DaVinci cannot read H.265 files)
If u install that codec DaVinci can read those files...
Vlc for instance, has that codec built-in

U can find HEVC codec on the Microsoft store
I'm using free Davinci version with that codec with H.265 mp4 mini3 files and I haven't had any problem.

Welp, no worries because I have a solution Hopefully, this will work.

DaVinci Resolve free version "kind of" doesn't support HEVC... BUT - there is a way to make it work, install a Windows extension, and it will support it.
I have uploaded the Extension installer to the Mega file sharing service, just download it from here and run it (Windows 10 or higher required), and make sure DaVinci Resolve and other video players/editors are closed during installation. Then open DaVinci resolve, and everything should work

Here's the file: https://mega.nz/file/wBtEUTzQ#F1 ... G7UbLBVj90ZVzPTQRpk

yes, you can use this extension to play HEVC files, but without acceleration
therefore is no fun on most computer.

only the studio version of DR supports acceleration on the GPU!

It should work if you follow Pozzix solution, you need the HEVC extensions, I bought the windows pack before finding out there was a free version identical but "hidden" in the store.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the trouble that this has caused. Hope that you could get the best recommendation from our fellow DJI Pilots with the 3rd party software that you are working on. With regards to the video not being recognized by windows player, kindly please refer to the troubleshooting steps below to see if that helps. Please keep us posted. Thank you.

1. Kindly please try to set the coding format to H.264/H.265 in the app. Try to shoot H.264 and H.265 videos respectively and play them. If the H.264 video can be played but the H.265 video cannot be played, please note that the H.265 coding format has higher requirements for computer configurations or software. Please try H.264. There are a few rare cases where the H.264 video cannot be played but the H.265 video can be played, which will not be discussed here.
If neither the H.264 video nor the H.265 can be played, proceed to Step 2.

2. Please try to use another piece of software to see if the video can be played. Recommended players include QQ Player, KMPlayer, Potplayer, PR, etc.

I think it is recording in d-cinelike that makes it not immediately able to open.

When I change it to not be d-cinelike, and record, those videos after are able to be played right away as normal.

So I think 10 bit may also have something to do with it as it is tied to d-cinelike as 10bit update ...
in this case.. if i want to use d-cinelike, i should have the 8bit firmware on my mini 3....
right?  But to downgrade.... i dont recall the steps and there is possibility of bricking  the drone right?

or.. is downgrading even possible now?

I have the exact same problem. I'm recording in H.265 but some videos work and others don't. It's weird because I don't change settings and it's in the same flight that some work and others don't.

Are you stopping recording when you land, before powering off?

Hello,
I am reigniting this issue because I have the same problem now and it occured out of the sudden.
It is not only Davinci resolve that does not recognize my d-cinelike mini 3 pro videos but most of my other windows video players.
BS player does play them and I can edit on clipchamp also.

Hi Fable,

Downloaded and tested your file. It is actually H.264 , 8 bit file, please see below from MediaInfo , but maybe Google transcoded it as well as I see writing application Google:

The file opens in anything I tried Windows Media Player,  VLC, Davinci Resolve (Studio), anything I tried.
You can actually also use HandBrake (media transcoder) to convert from any format to any other format pretty much. You can get it from https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
You can convert from H.265 if you are encoding in HEVC H.265 to H.264 and 10 bit to 8 bit if you need to. Hope this helps.

Take care, Mike.

Hello, I have had my Mini 3 Pro for just 3 weeks and am a very green new comer.  However I have also been recording in  H265 D-Cinelike 4k @ 30 fps.  I use SMPlayer  in Windows 11 to play back my videos on my Asus Laptop with complete success, I have a 4k screen with Nvidia GTX T1 built in.  I also have downloaded the latest Davinci Resolve 18 free version and it can import 1080p files, but when I try the H265 4k 30 fps. videos they are not recognised by Davinci.  I also am scratching my head and am looking for the best solution without having to pay for the full version. I hope somewhere in this thread there is a solution to this problem. I hope I have not poked my nose in here where it is not wanted. This is my first post to this forum, and would be thankful if I can find help!  Kind Regards.

FWIW, if 10-bit HDR playback is all that's required then there are a few good/free options. My MacOs favourite is Elmedia Player Pro which seems able to play anything including 10-bit 4k/60 and Hikvision CCTV footage which my default Quicktime player won't even open. It even enhances the colours of standard videos making them look far superior than my standard player. It doesn't offer any editing functions however.

I had the same issue  but only while using the integra goggles and motion controller. I had an idea. I changed the codec to 265 in the goggles, the videos now play. I think DJI got the codecs ass backwards! My computer has never played 265 codec before.

I have this same issue, and it's only just cropped up after about 100 videos on the drone, some in Cinelike and some normal - which had all worked fine in the past in Davinci and on Windows default player. After resetting my drone in frustration, I thought I'd take four quick videos in mp4 format (as I'd never use MOV), and tried Normal in H.264 and H.265, and then D-Cinelike in H.264 and H.265, and low and behold the only one that didn't work was D-Cinelike in H.264

So it seems if you want D-Cinelike to work, you need to use H.265. I must have somehow flipped mine to H.264 and D-Cine to stuff it up. Have converted those videos painstakingly slowly in handbrake, and now can play them.

Hi All,

Apologies for bringing this thread back up but I thought its better to discuss here than start a new thread.

As discussed by many here, I am facing the same issues. I have a Mini 3 Pro.

1. Mini 3 files (D-Cinelike) won't open in Windows Media Player nor be imported to DaVinci Resolve. Both h264 and h265. Files which are not D-Cinelike open without any issues (again both h264 and h265).
2. I have all the HEVC extensions installed.

Did a quick test to ascertain what file formats get supported and what do not. Looks like D-Cinelike files are not getting recognised by Windows and not getting imported into Resolve. No thumbnails cos Windows is unable to recognise them. I can play them in VLC or MPV but I want to edit videos in Resolve. How do I fix this considering I have installed the HEVC Extensions also.

Thanks,
Pradhyumna

Hi All,

Apologies for bringing this thread back up but I thought its better to discuss here than start a new thread.

Update - I guess I didn't do a proper test.

D-Cinelike will work with Resolve and in Windows Media Player (although everything plays in VLC) if you use H.265. D-Cinelike + h.265 works. D-CineLike + h.264 does NOT work.

So if you want to use D-CineLike, choose h.265 on Windows. (apparently this isnt an isue on Mac)
