Has anyone tried putting on antenna boosters on the RC and if so did they help with the range?

Thanks

Absolutely. Out to 17-18k feet. The max of the battery for my nerves. I used this one....

But FYI, If you just do the mod where you can put any external antenna on, you can get 6k or even a little better. You can do that for under $50 bucks with 9db antennas. I use both. When I need longer range or when there is a great deal of interference, I use the boosted setup. When I don't, I use the 9db omni directional ones. Just some food for thought.

Yes i made my own parabolic antennas, and i have a range further than the battery,s capacity i made it til 4300 meters, that was the limit, not for my signal that was still 100% but because the battery was ad 55% and i have to fly back aswell, so the limit now are the battery,s not the range of the signal, so answer to your qestion, yes it works!

You can go much farther than that. If you do max speed forward you could go out to 6k easily with fairly good weather up there. As I said in my earlier post, I got out to 18k feet with 10% left on battery on landing. That was boosted and quadruple your 4300 feet. I don't advise that though because it was very nerve-wracking! 6k feet is no issue and you can go and come back with 35-40% battery even if taking it easy and flying somewhat slow. I use the gauge at the top that has the H indicator and It is pretty accurate in calculating the return time. You can also hit RTH and then push the right stick forward and get many more mph's that the RTH speed which will aid in getting it back faster.

10% for critical 30% for the other. I like her to start screaming at me so I can make sure that I get it close to home quickly.

I have the dbs itelite patch antenna cheap and works like a beast battery is the only restricting factor in flying now.

Jim i thought i read somewhere that RTH eats up battery a lot quicker!!! i dont understand why it would, but have u heard any such thing?
btw flew in to 10mph wind for 2.5 miles with stockantennas and came back at speed of just over 50MPH in atti mode!!! i was surprised when i saw that on the screen, i would ve thought it would tear itself apart at that speed!

I don't understand the physics as to why that would eat more battery. I can tell you that when I fly way out there and am ready to return, I hit the lazy button. It makes a straight line back. Sometimes I spin it around and film sideways. Sometimes I record in reverse. It is so easy and leisurely just to let it return on "auto." If i need it back a little faster I push forward and it surpasses the standard RTH speed by quite a bit. Now, 50 mph with a tailwind I can see. Without a tailwind, I believe I have seen 42ish or so but not sure to be honest as I never really pay that much attention to it. It would probably be smart to do a "check" on top speed in regards to wind speed at elevation to keep any return battery power problems to a minimum.

Ahh hell yeh I no you can do a battery mod but Im not into adding more weight and possibly compromising the bird.Ideally I would love it if DJI released an improved smart battery with an extra ten mins of flight time.

Try putting your smartphone/Tablet in "Airplane Mode" that really helps.

If this is technically possible i think they will not do that and save it for the Phantom4.

Yes 4300 meters, but it was nerve-racking to get my bird back in one pice, so i do not recomended to do so, it is nice for me to know how far it can fly as a reference point, when i hit the RTH button it took the bird 10 minutes to fly home,,
The jello circel is indeed a good reference point, it is verry accurate, but at this given time the jello circel was not there annymore when i saw the sign "low battery"ad 55% so it made my verry nerveus, but i made it back with 13% power left

If you want to test max range place the phantom in the free and clear, (without taking off) and drive off as far as you can still have signal.   That will save some nerves and grey hairs. ;)
Probably have to hold the remote out of the window, but since it's not flying it shouldnt kick in RTH when it loses signal. At least I don't think it would. I havent tried pressing RTH with it landed.

Got ya. I didn't realize. That seems to be the longest range that I have seen 14-17 k feet.
