great photo's  fir me the final image is alway for me in the eye of the beholder, but as for jpg over dng, I will alway shoot raw, whether dng, cr2, this just gives so much more oppertunity for light and colour correction, jpg is only 8 bit , ie 256 steps from black to white, and raw 65535 steps from black to white, so say on a blue sky from light blue to dark blue you have the ability to correct without getting sudden jumps to the next shade of blue, or distinct bands of blue appearing on final photo,

Shooting in RAW conserves the full density range and all the pixels (4000x3000), without any loss due to compression.  As opposed to .jpg where much of the density range and pixels are lost forever and cannot be restored later. I consider shooting in RAW like capturing a digital negative that you can always make changes to,  like an original negative, without losing data when processing, cropping, changing density and colors, etc.

If you use software like Adobe Lightroom (awesomestest!) for post processing, then you can keep your RAW images intact as Lightroom only adds a layer on top of the picture with the changes you made, based on a database with the changes in a separate layer in a grid. Like that, your RAW and DNG digital negatives are always changeable without any loss.

Always shoot raw. It gives you much more lateral flexibility in editing. Also in JOEG you are trusting the camera's ability to guess your artistic vision!

Nice Stuff, I would like to use DNG but cannot get Photoshop CS3 to accept them. I have tried DJI_DNG_Cleaner and Adobe DNG Converter but cant get them to Photoshop.
Any Ideas?

Cs3 is pretty old, even though the DNG format is adobes, the version might be too new.   Can you upgrade your CS3 at all?  I know even in cs5.5/6 they still update the camera raw program even though they don't update anything else for new cameras and formats.

With the RAW image format, each pixel sensor is 12-14 bits which would make the steps 4096-16384 steps between black and white.

You need to be subtle - too much saturation makes the image cartoon-like and unbelievable!

Google/Nik has great filters for Photoshop, especially Colorefex Pro 4.  Very easy to use with excellent results.

Hi Tim,
I'm the QA manager for ON1 Software.  We develop photo editing software for the Mac and PC.  I could really use some DNG files from dji cameras for testing.
Do you have any you can share with me?  I don't care about the subject matter, only that they are in the original DNG format.
We will be releasing ON1 Photo RAW 2017 in a few weeks.  It will allow non-destructive editing of DNG files just like Lightroom.  Our product doesn't require a subscription though.
Best regards,
John
