Its my Grandsons birthday next month and he likes to watch me fly my P3.

I would like to suprise him on his birthday with a little ez to fly drone of his own.

Suggestions?

The Hubsan X4 is way too difficult to fly I think for a 8 year old.

100% agreed, one dived inside the only sum pump well in the basement, the other took off and dived into a tree 200 feet away, and it is still there.

Syma x5c-1 cheap and very durable

l second the Syma X5C-1, l got one to throw around and l still have it. They're indestructible. The footage is unusable but would be cool for a kid.
They're very light and get taken by the wind, so are good for close flights only, but at 8 y o, l guess that's what you want anyway. You'll need more batteries (about $3 each) since if you're filming you'll get about 5 or 6 minutes flight time.

And I third the Syma X5C.  I own one.  Stable and inexpensive.  (But with no GPS or other sensors, it must be controlled at all times.)

Don't get the Blade Inductrix...its a POS.  I've had 2 and they last about 10 minutes and the motors burn out.

I can understand your desire and your anxiety. However....

If I had a dollar for every time I saw something like:

Age Recommendation: Not for children under 14 years. This is not a toy.

...continuing - I would have enough money to buy both you and your grandson a quad to fly.

That said, I have a nephew who's coming up on 13 years old. I asked my brother-in-law if they thought he was mature enough to handle something like that. They think so, so I'm going to give him my Blade Nano and a DX-5 transmitter, a couple of batteries and a couple of lessons and cross my fingers.

The Blade Nano and the recommendations above are all small enough that they probably won't destroy your furniture in a crash. I flew my Nano into the blinds countless times while I was learning how to fly it. But, for virtually any child below their teens - something that's difficult to hurt someone else is a good idea.

EL SID, none of the inexpensive drones are easy to fly since they do not use GPS for stabilization. The Syma X12 is inexpensive, very durable, and not dangerous since the props are so small. It would be a good choice for your grandson.
