The auxiliary light on the bottom of my new Air 3 will not turn on.  Per the User's Manual it is supposed to automatically turn on by default in low-light environments when the flight altitude is under 5 m.  Users can also turn it on or off manually in the Fly App.  Each time the aircraft is restarted, the auxiliary light will revert back to the default setting Auto.

While flying the drone in low light last evening and while under 5 meters the light did not come on.  The setting was set to Auto in the Fly App.  I then tried to turn it on manually and it still did not come on.  I cycled through Auto, On and Off and still no light.  I landed the drone and switched to a newly charged battery.  Again, same results with new battery.  I'm thinking the LED light is faulty.  All firmware is fully updated.  Any ideas?

Open a warranty case. It should work. Too new to fool with DIY.

Thanks mobilehomer.  I contacted DJI Support and they had me refresh firmware via DJI Assistant 2.  No light still.  They had no further troubleshooting steps so they directed me to file a replacement application and then wait for up to 2 business days for a shipping label to be sent.  Application filed so now just have to wait on shipping label.  In the meantime I have to pack it all back up and be ready to ship it.

No problem Jody.  I bought an Air 3 direct from DJI online store and one from a local major retailer.  The one from the local store has zero issues.  I'm betting yours will be problem free.

No way can DJI QC 100% of all drones leaving the factory, especially in the quantities they produce them.  This is the first DJI drone that I have had any problems with and this is the 7th drone I've bought.  I'm guessing the bottom LED was defective or wasn't wired properly.  I delivered it to UPS this morning so I'm hoping for a fast turnaround.  The only problem is because it is a warranty issues within 15 days of purchase DJI requires to pack up and send the entire purchase back not just the defective drone.  So had to factory reset RC2 and pack it all up.

Remote ID doesn't show up for us in the app. I really wanted to get this registered with the FAA but have to wait to get a serial number.

Sorry you had to deal with the LED DT.

I've heard that the RID number is supposed to show up in the About tab.  Can't verify that as I had to box it all up and ship it back.  Would be good to know where to look  Otherwise would have to register the drone and then later go back and amend the registration to add the RID number.

Not listed in "About" yet. And it would be nice if you could "amend/edit" aircraft in the FAA site. As it is now once one is entered it needs to be "Cancelled" and reentered. I don't know why you can't just edit an existing craft. I like tidy and my list is quite the mess.

Thanks for the info on the FAA website.  I should have none it would not be that easy to just add the RID number later.  Oh well, will be at least 2 weeks I'm told before I get my replacement drone so I have time to find where they hide the RID number.

Knowing where to find the rid info we’ll be helpful as I really don’t want to register it and then have to cancel and register again later. I don’t guess it will be that big a deal as I’ll have to do the same when the air 2 rid firmware drops. My air 3 is scheduled for delivery Tuesday but I haven’t received the information on the Dji care plan I purchased fire the air 3 or the action 4 I got either one. Send like when I bought the other Dji care for the other drones and such I got, I got the care info in an email soon as the order went through, should I be concerned about that?

Now that you bring that up I didn't receive a separate email about the care plan I purchased.  However, after activating the RC and drone I noticed in the Fly App where the care plan was active.  So maybe DJI streamlined that process.

Hopefully your drone will arrive on schedule tomorrow and the weather will permit a test flight after you get the firmware updated and everything activated.  I think you are really going to like the Air 3.

I’ve watched all Aldryn’s (flytpath) and Russ’s (51 drones) videos and I don’t think I’ll like it, I think I’ll love it. I’m actually getting anxious to get it in. Kinda feeling like a kid again lol

So I guess that answers all my current questions in regards to DJI care and remote ID. My DJI order is currently 4 hours away from me and has departed that facility and on its way towards me. I haven’t been this excited since I got my MA2, so indeed, Christmas in August!!

I just got the chance to check my aux light. I thought for a little bit I was going to have to open a case because I couldn’t get it to turn on. I felt a little stupid when I figured it it won’t turn on unless it was in flight. I really should read that manual.

Wow, that turned out good then.  Yeah, my light did not work on either late evening flight.  It did not turn on automatically and I was unable to turn it on manually.  Fortunately, I had read the manual while waiting on the Air 3's arrival.  Now I'm re-reading the manual while waiting on the warranty replacement.  It shows they received it 2 days ago but no update since.  I figured it would be 5-7 business days anyway.

1st flight today i tested the aux light and found it comes on after a Smart RTH after you hear Landing. You can then turn it on otherwise it did not function as stated in the manual.

Got an email this morning from DJI that a replacement drone shipped.  UPS tracking indicates a label was created but the item has not been picked up yet. So I might get it within a few days.

Glad to hear you are loving the Air 3.

In the app of my colleague in the US

Thank you for reaching out. This is actually normal. The auxiliary bottom light is set to "Auto" by default and the front LEDs are turned on by default, which cannot be set by users. So there are no "Aircraft Front Arm LEDs" and "Auxiliary LED" options in DJI Fly App. This is applied to the 27 EU Members to meet laws and regulations. You can also check this link for further details: https://www.dji.com/newsroom/new ... for-mavic-3-series. We appreciate your support and understanding.

Interesting to know.  DJI sent me a warranty replacement but it is still in transit.  Once received I'll give the bottom auxiliary light another test.  If it doesn't function like the manual states I'll be sending it back for a refund.

In the past DJI has released models that not all functions work and have pushed firmware updates to correct this shortly afterwards. This could be one feature that will be corrected with time with new firmware.

The aux light now works anytime the aircraft is airborne. I updated my other two batteries and went flying again today and tested that feature. I am happy with how it works but does not work as stated in the manual. It did not come on when landing as i hoped it would.

That's interesting.
I'm in Europe, and we don't have manual control of the light here, so I did a little test while flying at night. The bottom light here turns on during take-off, at maybe 0.3 m height, and is then on, until height of 7 m. Once I fly above 7 m, it turns off. When reducing altitude, it turns of, when I go below 5 m, and then off again when I go above 7 m.
When landing, it turns on, and stays on until the aircraft has almost landed. It turns off maybe a second or two before touching down.

Success.  The replacement drone works great.  I waited for it to be dark outside and then I set the bottom auxiliary light to Auto in the App and when I got down to about 10 feet the light came on as advertised.

Funny how the landing light is such a simple & unnecessary thing, but the first time the drone comes in & it pops on, it is so cool & satisfying that you think, "This should be on every drone!"
