Hello

I asked the seller to allow me to arrive with cash and check contents of box, validate its serial no and check everything is working.  On passing these tests, I would pay.  They said they would not allow box to be opened, so I am not buying now.  Maybe it was a box with a brick in it, who knows.

Thank you anyway.

It's perfectly understandable that the seller would not allow you to open the box, if you were them would you?
If the sale wasn't completed the drone would have lost its sealed status, remember they know you as well as you know them.

Plenty of scammers out there.

If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. The thing is, the deal you're getting isn't exactly saving you loads of money, you might as well just buy one new for the extra £150.

I too wouldnt allow the box to be unsealed unless a deal has been made with funds in my hand.
On the other hand, are there no serial numbers on the box?

I just got a replacement through my warranty and plan on selling it and upgrading, and I wouldn't really want someone to open to make sure it's real, but I completely understand why they would want to. Maybe cash isn't the best idea. With Paypal you could open a claim at least.

Seals can be faked.  Unless he's a registered dealer/store or something like that, a random person selling something expensive like that will have to allow the buyer to inspect.

As for losing value after unsealing, that is easy to prove.  Just start up the RC and as long as the first thing you see is the activation screen, then you know it's untouched.

My nature is to always be suspicious.

Just be careful to never hand over your goods to someone face-to-face after they send you Paypal (unless it's Paypal friends).  If you don't provide a valid tracking number, super difficult to win a claim or defend against the fraud that will be coming your way.  Paypal 101

I know people are going to laugh at me but if you are so concerned about the "brick" trick, you can bring a scale to the transaction.  All things ok and only the weight being your last concern, if you knew how much the retail box should weight (ask your forum friends), a good scale will give you more confidence.

DJI certainly uses a super sensitive scale at the end of their factory lines (and along the way) to weigh each and every box and believe it or not, they can almost tell which component was missed which is one of the many reasons why you almost never see a sealed retail box without all the major components.  They can detect if the microUSB cable is missing.  ;)

I use gearfocus.com to sell my stuff.  They take care of shipping and tracking, but the buyer can still claim that I didn't ship something etc. if they want to.

I film the entire boxing procedure in one shot, showing that the item works (powers on etc), all the way to placing the tracking label on the box.  I also put a few marks on the packing tape, akin to a wax seal and take a photo of it as it is being dropped off.

Yes, it is a bit paranoid, but saved my rear once.  Someone claimed a $2000 camera was broken, and when I showed my video, claim was quickly withdrawn.

The saving is £270 as its a pro 4 mini fly more with rc2. So they are about £970.

Are we saying that even with means to pay in my hands at their address, I should not be asking to check items in the box ?

Thank you

But what can you check?
DJI have no way to tell if most drones are stolen.
Don't imaging that it's possible to tell.

serial is not written on the box sticker? If som then DJI should be able to say if the article has been stolen.

The main check would have been are the items actually in the box and working.  I.e have they put a dji mini 3 in instead, bought the 4, stuck the 3 in its box and the first time I find out is when I open it and it's all to late etc.

When there's no comebacks, the risks are high.

OK ... how is DJI going to know if a particular drone has been stolen?
In almost all cases, they won't

If its stolen from a shipment i.e. from a store or at the ports etc, DJI are informed and the drone(s) are bricked. There was such a case just the other week where a chap was trying to claim that they were mislead because DJI chat said that the serial number check was ok, but when they spoke to dji support through email, they were told that the item was part of a shipment that was stolen, they guy was trying to get a new one out of it just cause DJI chat said it was showing as ok (i forgot now what the ok part was about) anyhoo, If its reported, DJI will put a block on  it and will let you know if you request a serial check.

If someone stole mine, i would report it to the police and then give DJI the crime number and they should brick them, thats the hope anyway.

I would also think others would do the same too, i would say that you would, i would certainly try anything to make it harder for the thief(s)

And that is the key.  The victim would have to report it in order for Dji to know.  I would as well to make it harder, but some may not.

But very few other people would.
DJI wouldn't have any idea about the majority of drones that might be stolen and if you rely on them in that situation, you stand a good chance of buying a stolen drone.

That is true and it could be bricked by DJI at any time after the sale, if its reported to them.
So it is a risk even if they say that it isn't on their database at that time.

If owner reports to DJI that his drone with serial=xxx has been stolen, then it could at list register which drone has been stolen and potentially reports it to the new owner - and to an extent, brick it...

If .... but it's quite rare that anyone reports stolen drones to DJI.
DJI have no idea about most stolen drones.
If you rely on DJI knowing, you will probably be let down.

In a nutshell you probably can not.
What controller was stolen and how long ago was the bag stolen ?
The only chance you have is if the controller was one of the smart controllers and is still logged into your DJI account or if the controller uses a phone, the poine was in the bag and the app was logged into your DJI account then ...
If the thief is stupid enough to fly the drone using your account and syncs the log ( which I doubt they will do ) then you could instal the app on a phone etc., log in to your account and sync logs. That would download any flights that had been synced by the thief, they can be read and a flying location obtained.

But there is no way that I know of to display the drones current location.

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

We are sorry to hear about this unfortunate experience.

Sorry to inform that we are unable to track your aircraft. Tracking the aircraft will require the synced flight data via the DJI APP by the pilot and also the DJI account that the pilot flies your drone with.

We recommend that you report this theft incident to the local authorities, authorizing the police to run investigations into this case. Once reported, please contact our customer support at (https://www.dji.com/support) to record the stolen aircraft in the system. Our support team will contact you if we receive the products in the future.

If you have any other questions, kindly message us here. Thank you!

Hello,
I need help with this questions, I’m from Chile and we have got a Matrice 350 RTK stolen in our shop, is there any chance that the Premium Dealer here can block the serial number ? Or check if it is initialized? Can we block the drone or find it, track it by any chance ? We are trying to contact them and going to the local police.

I think there is a reasonable chance that DJI can prevent the drone being activated providing you can supply them with the serial number.
That assumes that it has not already been activated by the thieves.
Hopefully a mod will reply and then you can discuss the drone and its serial number via private messages etc.

As for tracking the drone hmmm given it is a Matrice I do not know
