Hi everyone,

I use an iPhone and iPad. When in single shot mode on the drone, and selecting EITHER JPEG or RAW, both file types are visible for download from the drone via the DJI Fly app. And all can be edited in Lightroom successfully on either my iPhone or iPad.

However, when I select the 'Jpg+Raw' option in the drone, I cannot thereafter see the raw files (I am aware they are referred to as .DNG) in the DJI fly app - but they DO exist on the microSD card and I can obviously download/edit them on my laptop.
Specifically, why do the .dng files NOT show up in the DJI fly app when selecting the .jpg+raw' option in the drone - is this a bug?

Help!
Many Thanks, Andy

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. The RAW photos cannot be downloaded directly to a mobile phone. You can only transfer the file from the SD card to your phone and open it using Adobe software. Please note that the DJI Fly app does not support downloading RAW files. We appreciate your understanding.

That’s incorrect - so let me clarify my issue - The DJI Fly app DEFINITELY DOES show .dng(raw) file thumbnails (see screenshot below), and you can easily transfer them directly from the drone via the download icon in DJI Fly, but this is when you have previously selected ‘RAW’ only (middle option in the camera setting menu) within the drone.

My issue is that when you select ‘JPG+RAW’ in the drone (that’s the third option in the mini 4 pro camera menu), the RAW (.dng) file isn’t displayed in the DJI Fly app (but IS on the SD card).

The image below is a screen shot from my iPhone running the DJI fly app and you can clearly see there is an image entitled ‘raw’ which I can download amd the edit directly on my iPhone using Lightroom.

To reiterate my issue, when I select jpg+Raw in the drone, I get no images with the ‘raw’, icon but they ARE on the sd card.

I therefore do not see how you say raw images are not available for download via DJI fly app.

That makes no sense to me. I am using the latest version of DJI fly, iOS and Lightroom.
Thank You for reading and digesting the problem here

Hi - can you explain the DJI fly app screenshot I sent as you said it’s not possible to use DJI fly to download raw from the drone - it absolutely is possible. Is your information out of date? Thanks Andy

Hello. My sincere apologies for the confusion. There are mobile devices that do not support downloading RAW via the app and there are also models that support it, also DJI RC 2 does support downloading RAW via the DJI Fly app. Furthermore, it is normal that there is no RAW file generated on the DJI Fly app when you shoot JPEG+RAW instead, you can export the RAW file (generated from JPEG+RAW shooting) via microSD file. Hope for your understanding and support. Have a nice day ahead.

Thank You - it would be a nice function to have a tab inside the thumbnail (similar to the ‘aeb’ tab, which opens each frame of the aeb shot) to open both jpeg and raw files when j+raw is selected in the drone. Maybe something for another release!

Thank you for your feedback, Andy. Rest assured that this will be forwarded to our engineers for future consideration. Should you have other inquiries, feel free to contact us. Have a nice day ahead!

8 months later and nothing has changed. Still a major bug.

Agreed - The anomaly hasn’t been addressed! But it’s not really a major bug by definition - more of an oversight > inconvenience

I just stumbled over this bug with my Mini 4 Pro, using data transfer to both the remote control RC 2 and my Android smartphone (Google Pixel 8 pro).  i literally teared my hair off looking for the missing raw images in the album folders.

It is not a major bug but very inconvenient as I need to buy and use a card reader with my smart phone to save raw images (what I do after each fly, in case the drone gets lost).

It took a while for DJI to grasp the issue I reported but they eventually understood it. Whether it ever gets addressed is unknown. From my own experience integrating consumer phone video to contact centre agent solutions, no mobile providers exspend much focused effort on deep support or enhancement for integrations that don’t generate revenue for them…this is probably a difficult issue for DJI to progress especially if they’re saying some phones don’t support raw images (specifically, what would happen in the mobile providers API if DJI forced a raw image to one of these devices…etc etc)

A RAW image is just a file, that can be handled by any phone. The issue is not whether the RAW file can be displayed by the phone, it doesn't have to. Rather the phone is merely used as a way to transfer files over wifi to a laptop (Airdrop for ios, QuickShare for Android) when a USB connection isn't possible (which is my issue)

It is quite irritating that it's not possible to directly export RAW files from camera. @dji, you will have to act on this. I am unable to process it in Lightroom because of this error.
