Carsehall Farms feeding the mediums and the young stock a TMR ration of Silage, Beans, Wholecrop, Crimped Barley and Maize meal...
Redrock TH300 and the 20m3 Paddle Feeder with the Massey Ferguson 5460 2wd bossing her around the yard...
Ration is worked out via the computer for the output of the dairy cattle and then fed into the diet feeder, once updated the feeder then shows the amount required in kg and shows a count down.
Breakdown of the Rations
Highs get
5 kg barely
6 kg pre mix
7.5 kg indoor pit
7.5 kg whole crop Rye
And 25 kg outdoor pit.
That’s why we shear it first to try and make sure there’s a good mix of everything going in. This gives roughly maintenance + 32 litres for freshly calved animals.
Mediums get 3.5 kg barley
3.5 kg pre mix
7 kg indoor pit
7 kg whole crop rye
30 kg outdoor pit
This gives maintenance + 25 litres.
Just a thought. If you're growing crops on the farm it would be fascinating to do a year in the life of the field following the processes that go into a crop.
