I tried to test the range that I could fly the P3 being under control. At the altitude of 130m with distance of roughly 340m from the RC, with no obstacle in between (open area and sunny day) there was RC connection and everything green (Safe).  When i continued to fly forward, the red "no signal" flag turned on and the camera image was not updating anymore.

So my question is, in this moment the RC connection is lost, but does that mean the connection between the App and the P3 is lost as well? (seems so)
Thus, the return home button will have no functionality (coz no connection between the two, and I have set to "hover" in case of connection lost).

So overall, what would you do if you are in a situation where no RC connection + no App connection is available. The P3 will hover forever and die?!

Also I have gone out over 2 km stock with perfect signal. I'm out in the praries of Canada though so it is good flat ground with minimal trees

I have gone 4 miles out the furthest when i lost my video feed but still had rc signal . It was a good thing tho because i returned back with 9% battery life. I have a post on the  utube as waba305

Standard uses wifi, thats about how much it will go. The Advanced and Proffesional have LightBridge to handle transmission, which offers a much longer range.

Yeah I have the P3A, the difference in price was worth the lightbridge, glonass, and vps

Your next step is upgrade your wifi antenna on your RC...

There may be some confusion with the OP.  No Signal/red bar does not mean you have lost RC to P3 connection.  It means you don't have video link.  You can still fly using the RC and bring it back.  Loss of signal should normally be set to RTH for most people.

Sorry, but no. Do you have a Standard? If not then how would you know?

So far I have flown my Standard out to 1200 meters and did not lose the signal. I am sure it could go even farther. I know there are many who think that 1200 m is not far compared to a Pro or Advanced, but at that distance I could no longer see it. That's plenty far for me. It's not always the case, but I'm afraid your claim of 400 meters max is not correct.

Both signals are Wi-Fi and most likely when one is gone the other will be as well. I would set the lost signal to "RTH" and set the "RTH" Height for the terrain.

Tested it this weekend.  I went 2,000 ft, and started to get a 'weak signal', so I started to come back home.  I was in a populated area, and not really in the best location for the transmission.

P3P Advanced, about 200ft up.  I was trying to make it to my mother in laws house, which is ~4,800ft away or so.

No upgrades. I flew it in a place without too may obstructions at an altitude high enough for the aircraft to review a good signal from the controller.

Yeah it used to be a rocket test facilty. Right where I lost my signal to the left there is a missile silo which is covered by cement pilars now. People used to repel inside the silo till someone got hurt and sued the county.

yeah me too ,wont happen to this one.  Wildlife control is keeping a good watch over the area. I used to go back there and shot my guns and explore the buildings , now there are warning sign all over since someone got kill in a bad drug deal.
