I just have receiver my X5, while hoping to get X5R once it starts shipping. Main advantage of X5 over X3 from my point of view are interchangeable lenses, and a bit more normal kit lens. Camera works prety much as Panasonic GH4 which I regulary use in my productions - it has 2.0 crop factor for Photos and HD, and aprox. 2.4 crop factor for UHD/4K. Therefore 15mm kit lens in UHD has view angle of 2.4x15=aprox. 35mm full frame equivalent. While it is not officially recommended it can handle even Olympus 25mm 1.7 which is in UHD equivalent to full frame 60mm, so I can fly on safe distance when chasing cars and boats, I can fly at safe distance from a people while filming just a torso... For panorama photography or wide angle HD there is Olympus 12mm 2.0 which is 24mm full frame equivalent... (X3 has fixed lens which is strictly 20mm equivalent, nice for panoramas and tight spaces but too wide for medium shots)...
There is much better low light sensitivity in X5 then it was in X3 (sensor is 8 times larger) and there is very usefull D-Log flat profile which makes serious color grading possibile...
So, I find X5 to be some kind of Panasonic GH4 in small package (lacking just 100Mbit/sec bitrate), while X5RAW will be ultimate arial video tool, very close to RED Raven and Alexa Mini... |
