Hi,

I've had the DJI mini 4 Pro with the RC2 controller 2 months now. I have been creating waypoint plans with up to 200 waypoints. Everything seems to work ok from the ground, but as soon the drone starts the mission the RC2 controller freezes. One time the drone completed the waypoint mission and another time the drone completed only approx. 30 waypoints and the returned to home. I was very relieved that the drone did return.

The last update was successfully installed just two days ago.

Can anyone recommend a fix?

Hi there,

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing.

In 3# it looks like you're using a microSD card that isn't on the DJI RC2's recommended list in the user manual. We recommend using one of the suggested cards for optimal performance. If the issue persists after switching to a recommended card, please let us know here so we can assist you further.
Kindly refer to the picture below for compatible MicroSD for DJI RC2;

We are looking forward to your response for further assistance. Thank You.

Hi there,

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing.

Why are there fewer recommended SD-Cards for the mini 4 Pro as the Mini 3 Pro?

https://forum.dji.com/thread-284002-1-1.html

Here is the list for the mini 3 Pro -  My 'sandisk extreme pro 256gb' is indeed on this list!
But why is it not on the list for the Mini 4 Pro?

Thank you for the reply. The DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Mini 3 Pro are different devices, and the recommended SD card options may vary for a few key reasons such as storage capacity and video quality requirements, and compatibility testing and validation. I hope this helps clarify your inquiry. Thank you and have a good day !

There seems to be a bit of inconsistency regarding the recommended sd cards.

The SanDisk 64GB high endurance microSDXC card you recommended me is not on the list from the DJI Website.

https://www.dji.com/de/mobile/mini-4-pro/specs

Can you explain this?

The thread you are referring #4 is for DJI RC 2 recommended microSD Cards which you can only use those microSD cards for your RC2. Additionally, you can use microSD cards for your aircraft and RC 2 with the recommendation list given. Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Hi Natalia.

thanks for your reply.

Just to comfirm: In my mini 4 Pro drone I have a SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB Micro SDXC V30 U3 A2 card.

I used to have the same card in the controller, but I have changed it to the SanDisk High Endurance 64GB MicroSDXC U3 V30 as recommended.

Are both the drone and the RC2 Controller now correctly equiped with the recommended SD cards?

Yours,

Robert Buckley

Hi there, thank you for reaching out and we do apologize for the trouble caused. May I confirm if you're referring to the DJI Fly App in your remote controller crashed? IF yes, could you please try perform a factory reset and see if that helps.

This is also a problem with my RC2. I have flights coming up with a couple hundred waypoints and need the controller to be reliable.  I was testing it in a safe area last night and found that if I put the screen to sleep while the mission is running and simply listen to the camera actions, it continues the mission just fine. I had a 30 minute mission and would turn the display on ever few minutes to check system status and see where it was in the flight.

This really needs to be fixed.  When the display comes on, it instantly starts slowing down until the mission is paused, then you have full control again.  I waited until it was at the last waypoint, turned the display on and immediately paused. I was able to take control and land it safely.  If you're on a waypoint mission and it locks up while its on a 2 second photo interval, you can power down the RC2 and the drone will continue to hover where it is and continue to snap pictures until the controller finishes booting.  Once rebooted, I was able to start at waypoint 31 (where it locked up) and continue the mission for another 20-30 waypoints before it started locking up again.

Hi all,

I'm experiencing similar issues, with two main problems.
First, when loading a large mission (100-200 waypoints) on the Mini 4 Pro RC, then entering the map view, the screen crashes, and everything freezes. Resetting the RC resolves it, and I've found I can continue working without entering the map view.

The second issue occurs during a large waypoint mission. After taking around 100 images, the RC struggles and freezes again. The light turns red, communication is lost, and the drone returns on RTH.

I'm running the latest firmware for both the Mini 4 Pro and RC2.
Both the drone and RC have SanDisk Extreme PRO 512GB cards.

Any insights on this?

Hi everyone,

I am also facing the issue (mini 4 pro) when the RC2 crashes when loading a big waypoint mission (200-300 waypoints), and navigating to the mission in the map view. Resetting the RC2 and avoiding the map view will solve this but i want to make sure that I have loaded the correct mission.
Also sometimes while the mission is in progress, the RC2 get stuck, and the drone makes an RTH probably because of signal drops.

I just had the issue today with the RC2 and the Air 3. It does not matter if I use the M4P or Air3. I had a Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB V30 U3 A2 in the controller. Removing it makes no difference. I have tried 3 different missions and the app on my controller freezes up after 1 or 3 waypoints. I have checked for updates and I have the latest versions of everything.

Does this happen on the N2 as well? I am almost buying one to test.

Did you ever test the RC-N2? I am thinking of getting one to run with a tablet or my Samsung S23FE to see if I can run a mission with over 100 waypoints. I generate the maps using waypointmap.com and when I fly with the Air 3 / RC2, the DJI Fly app freezes and I get a message as the author did on the screen. Luckily, I always set Signal Loss to RTH so the drone comes back. I have to restart the RC2 to regain control and then try to fly the mission again. It is very frustrating. I will test tomorrow using the SD card on the controller as storage (A Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 128GB I bought from the DJI store with the drone, so it should be compatible

I think this is a serious issue DJI needs to look into. The app locking up is concerning. The RTH button gives me peace of mind, as well as the signal loss RTH, but what if the drone doesn't come back for some reason? It can't just lock up.RC2 with DJI Fly App v1.16.0(1135-dpad) + Air 3

I have not tested with the M4P, since it is a smaller camera sensor and it would not be the best for these missions.

I just ran a successful waypoint mission with 150 points. No lock ups, however, the catch is, you have to stay in camera view and put the attitude indicator bottom left, not the mini map. The map apparently is what causes the problem. The drone flew the mission just stopping when the battery drained (it took almost 3 batteries, large site). So DJI has to fix the map issue.

BTW, to prove it is the map, the aircraft if disconnected, I am on the controller trying to view the mission on the map, connected to mobile data, so maps should be online, and the app crashed and restarted. Interestingly, I had put in an SD card (approved my DJI, bought from the store), and once it restarted, it switched back to internal memory.
@DJI please take a look at the maps.

It looks exactly what I experienced, especially since it started when the waypoints starts, since then the video starts.  I had the same on my Mini 4 Pro, and found it to be caused by the SD card (even if it should be of sufficient capability).  After I replaced it with a Sandisk Extreme Pro, my problems were solved.  For me, it was the RC 2 SD card causing it (I was doing screen recording at the same time).

I have also seen on both my Mini 4 Pro and my Air 3S RC 2's that I sometimes get a lag when using the Mic 2 receiver to record sound on the screen recording.  It may seem that DJI hasn't been able to ensure a good connection between their own products.

Today I flew 3 missions with around 150 waypoints each. I put in a 128GB SD card and used just the video feed and not the map. I noticed a HUGE lag with the map open instead of live view. The map for me is the biggest problem, even though I downloaded offline maps. Otherwise, it flew very well. I will test a bigger mission with several hundreds of waypoints and see how it goes. I did try to screen record a bit but it locked up the RC2 so I gave up on that.

I have. I tried a 256GB one today and the controller started to lag, but I am not 100% sure it was the SD card's fault. Eventually, the commands were taking so long to execute, I decided to restart the controller mid mission and resume from the point I saw it had done successfully. I still feel it is the mini map or even map view. Without the map on the screen, I barely got problems flying a mission with 200 waypoints.

No, how do I do that?

You download DJI Assistant 2 to you computer and install it (latest Windows version is V2.1.35). You can find it here:
https://www.dji.com/no/downloads ... sumer-drones-series

Start up the program, log in with your DJI account, and connect the drone and the RC 2 and turn them on (has be be done one at the time).

When you turn the drone or the RC 2 on, an icon of the item in question will appear. Click on that icon.  Select Firmware update.  There you will see the current Firmware version and if it exist a later one, you can choose Update.  If not, choose Refresh.

I found a more In-depth guide at youTube that you also may watch:

Interesting. I never thought of doing that. I can give it a try, but won't I lose the data on the remote? I mean, I have my missions created there as well as flight data. Does that get removed? I do have the SDCard inserted, would the data be there instead?

So far, I haven't lost any data, but I will always check the settings, as some of them may change when updating at least.  Ii does not seem like any of the stored data is influenced during neither update or refresh (regardless of where it is stored).  This does not seem like a factory reset.

I tried everything. I refreshed the firmware on the controller and on the drone. I predownloaded all the maps for offline mode. I hot-spotted my phone so the controller would have internet access. Nothing worked. If I open the map even in the tiny view at the bottom, I immediately get lag. If I open it full screen, the app locks up and I have to shutdown and turn the controller back on to gain control. Even opening the map then closing it again causes lag. I made some videos and photos of the controller today, I can upload them somewhere if you like so you can see the lagging performance.

What I did after all the tests was just put the attitude indicator in the bottom left and not even attempt to look at the map. This is annoying, because I would like to see on the map where the drone is, but alas, it is the only way for larger missions.

Having said that, missions with over 200 waypoints also lock up the controller. I had to break up the mission into < 200 way points at a time, so several missions, so I could get the job done.

Then I am out of suggestion.  You should probably send a request directly to DJI, as they do not always respond here if the problem is difficult for them to solve. (support@dji.com)
