I was flying in the room and suddenly the NEO fell down (motors stopped and boom fell down).
Even though there is light in the room, I get now the message that there is no clear texture.
Has anyone had the same experience?

Can you show or describe your floor?
I think the downward looking IR Camera is used for positioning when magnetometer/GPS not available.
Maybe the floor is too uniformly without texture the software has nothing to "grab" on.
Just an idea.

Maybe too reflective floor surface?  I've flown the Avata2 in my home, but only under N mode and gently.  No issues.  Sure hope the Neo can handle the same environment.  One of the reasons I purchased the Neo is for indoors winter season flying.

not only reflective, when I switch on Neo while it sits with good ambient light on a fine bed sheet, I also get warning "Flying well lit textured environments".
Workaround: no cleaning of floor for the next months

it looks good. It hasn't been damaged on the outside.

So far I've only been able to do a short test.
As soon as the weather is better I'll test it again. In addition to the surface, which I think should be OK (photo).

The lighting conditions were also OK (no low light). But I noticed that when I fly it over a black surface (couch) (approx. 30-80cm) the message "Flying well lit textured environments" immediately appears.
+
I'm still wondering whether there will be an update that will allow me to change the camera settings on my smartphone.
I'm a trail runner and carry the 350g remote controller isn't practical.

+
I would like to add that with the first firmware I had the problem that at 29% I got a low battery message and the drone immediately started to land. Luckily it was just 10m away from me. I was using the RC.

Thank you for your support

Hello OldGuy2024 very funny - and good Idea not cleaning .

I have to contribute something here too and I ask for your understanding in advance.

My comment should not be understood as me badmouthing NEO in comparison to the Hover.

I had the Hover x1 for 10 months and not once did I have any problems with the controls (okay, the X1 is very slow in comparison) or altitude or crashing.

Compared to the NEO, it flew stably on the spot even when I didn't have the room light on and it was dark in the room. The NEO complains even in daylight in autumn and under ceiling light.

I even flew from above 4000 meters altitude (Vulkan Fuego in Guatemala) and at sunrise, almost night, without complaining.

So that's why I expect at least a certain standard from DJI.

I'm also basing my opinion on the advertising video and the lighting conditions here are much worse than mine.

What I'm trying to say is that the "promise" or demo shows a lot of things that are actually "not" possible. Or am I wrong?

DJI Please please tell us you are working on it.
Thanks

Thank you for your reply. The downward vision system if there is no clear textured surface, thus the reminder may pop up.
I will forward your suggestion to the engineers, I hope the settings will be available as well.
And for the battery issue, will it reappear?

In my case the reaction of the Neo is different and much more serious: It accelerates and flies straight into the next object when the message comes ("fly in a well lit and textured environment").
I tried to fly with the goggles 3 and motion controller indoors. It is a rainy day but still a lot of light is coming in through the windows. With my Avatars (both) I could fly easily with a fraction of this light.
I tested three times and each time, as soon as there is slightly less light and the message comes up,  the Neo accelerates and flies against the next wall.
This must be fixed, if it really cannot orient itself at such light, which is hard to believe, just let the pilot control. Keep the drone level, for this no vision is required. Auto land. Everything would be better than accelerating. Even just falling out of the sky would be preferable...

I have the same problem, with wifi control via the app is not usable indoor, i also have reflective surface and the drone always land or fall. Nice control instead if you use RC-N3 remote control

I got the Neo yesterday, I had the same problem starting already on my first flight indoors in my house. Its really anoying that the drone just sudenly falls right after you get this advertency. Please DJI developers adjust the firmware so it behave differently during this situations... otherwise this drone is gonna get really bad fame in a little time

I have the same issue. Flying indoors is not possible at the moment with the Neo. Everything is on current FW, I have tried it three times without success. Where I was trying to fly is carpeted (this is good for crashing) All three times it happened within 15 feet of me. I had full signal, it would all of a sudden throws a red message in the lower right "fly with caution (no satellite/vision" and take off until it hit a wall. One time it was literally right next to me. I have bought 3 DJI drones in the past 6 months and at this point I'm not happy. I have not even flown my AIR 3 yet but am kinda wary to find if it has any bugs.....

Hi there, thank you for reaching out and we do apologize for the trouble caused. Could you please share us a video recording or a screenshot showing the warning on your remote controller? Also, may I confirm if your both aircraft and remote controller is updated with the latest firmware?

Looking forward to your response. Thank you!

That floor does not work very well. I have a similar floor in my house and the Neo only like it when it’s over my bedsheets (egyptian cotton 600 tc).

I had  the same issue. Motor stopped suddenly when I put the left joistick down because i wanted to go down. My guess is that the vps does not see the floor, and thought it was already near the floor and decides to stop engines.

I saw the problem straight away and in my opinion there will be no satisfactory solution. The problem is that they cut corners on the sensors and that it is very likely that no continuous GPS connection is established. This means that the problem with the motors and flying away will always remain. I would rather wait for the next model. ;)

Hi there, thank you for reaching out and we do apologize for the trouble caused. May I confirm the exact drone model and remote controller you're using? Also, make sure the firmware is updated to the latest model in both aircraft and remote.

It would be best if you can share us the flight log for us to check further on this for you with our engineering team. Looking forward to your response. Thank you!

Not sure why you would need GPS indoors.  No need for RTH, home point, tracking.....

Do wish if not a hardware issue the sensors used to stabilize the Neo could handle lower light and the transition from lower to normal lighting levels.  Or just allow switching the system off for indoors flying. Then becomes similar to flying non-DJI quads in Angle mode.  The ability to switch off the stabilization system outdoors would allow people to take a transitional step between DJI's N/S mode to M mode.

The Neo replaced for indoors flying an inexpensive(~$100usd) analog video system quad that has 3 modes. "N,S" and manual with a single downward sensor that was active in N and S modes.  Not really stabilization. Just reduced the chance of hitting the ground if you let all sticks go to more or less centered. Another option v. complete shut down of the stabilization system if firmware allows.
