If you're like me, a person who loves smooth imagens with nice motion blurs, here are the settings that worked out for me. The footage quality improved a little bit. Note that you'll only be able to set this if you're using one of the compatible RCs/FPV Goggles.

  • Video Resolution: 4k - 30FPS (since it will give you more pixels to work with on post)
  • Aspect Ratio: to get most of it's tiny little sensor, I use 4:3 (19:9 will get you cropped image. You can always crop it as you want on post);
  • EV: -0.7 on sunny bright days or -0.3 if it's not that sunny. NEO's default setting tends to be overexposed.
  • Sharpness: -2;
  • Noise reduction: -1;

As soon as I get my ND filters, I'll be able to mess around a little more with the manual settings such as ISO, shutter speed and apperture, but, so far, with no filters on, this is what I've been using.

What about you? Please share your favourite settings.

These would be the settings I would go for if I could change them in the app. I don’t have the controller

The NEO is fun as a stand alone selfie drone, but, I would recommend you to get a RC as soon as you can. It's a whole new game.

It's mainly a selfie drone though and it's a decent cheap FPV drone, but kinda pointless with RC imo if you have literally any other DJI drone already. Point is default settings need to be much better, and more adjustable, with or without RC or goggles. Whole thread here: https://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=317775

@DJI: is it possible to choose at 4k 25fps additional to 30fps for better compatiblity at PAL with 50hz?

Thanks

Well... that's an opinion.

The drone is only 199 EUR. That's cheap. But I don't see it as a mere selfie drone. If you already own a NEO, you can always find a nice used RC for around 40 EUR on ebay. The experience you'll have with an RC is WAY much better than just flying manual over the mobile app.

From where I stand, if you already own a NEO,  it's still worth buying an used RC if you want more control over the drone and it's settings.

I've even been using the NEO in some low cost real estate photography gigs, and, so far, it's been more than enough. As a matter of fact, all the jobs I did using this so called selfie drone have already paid for the whole fly more combo. So, in my case, an RC isn't that pointless.

Hello Drone Pac. There's an anti-flicker option on Camera Settings menu. You can choose between OFF, Auto, 50Hz and 60Hz.

Why should I use 25 FPS to better match PAL if I can use anti-flicker at 50Hz? I mean, that's the only reason why the anti-flicker option is there, so, why not use it?

I agree an rc would be beneficial for users who got Neo as their first drone. All I was saying is the person you told to get RC already has other DJI drones (as seen from their profile) so getting another RC just for the Neo is kinda pointless as Neo with RC can't do anything their other drones already can't.

Unless he's shooting for PAL TV, matching shutter speed to a fraction of 50hz and using 30fps is simply better anyway.

The thing is, he said, and I quote, "I don’t have the controller"... that's why I suggested him to get a RC if he really want to mess with the camera settings. And I agree with you that the NEO with a RC can't do anything other drones can't, but it's also true that, if you really want to mess with more advanced settings, you'll gotta have, at least, the RC N2.

But it's up to him anyway... if he's happy with the default settings, and can use his other drones to shoot awesome cinematic videos then, getting a RC for the NEO is really pointless.

Cheers!

To be fair, I don't think anyone who has working eyes is happy with Neo's default camera settings but we're pushing hard for DJI to add those settings to DJI Fly, so I would suggest people vote with their money and not get the controller, or ideally don't get Neo at all until they fix this, or return it if it's still in the return period and tell them you're returning it because it lacks basic settings. That's what I did, with mine.

That's exactly what I did.
I sent the DJI NEO back and also shared my criticism.
I think it's a mistake on DJI's part and now I'm waiting for the Hover x1 Pro Max until it's officially available to buy in the EU.
+ DJI FLY APP is a security risk in my opinion! So BE CAREFUL with your data. The app is not available via the Playstore and requires special rights to be installed.
Bye DJI
