Took the NEO out for a test of RTH and was disappointed, the old Phantom 2 worked better.

Tested the Neo's RTH a few days ago.   Hardware used: Goggles3 and FPV RC3. N mode.  Worked as expected. Flew up to the set RTH altitude and more or less came directly overhead of the landing pad before descending.  Like the Avata2 it missed the landing pad by a ~meter.

Friend flies the Mini Pro 4 with the RC2. He noted his RTH is not reliable.  The quad once flew up to the RTH altitude and when it was still a distance from his land site it started descending.  He doesn't trust it.

My mini 4 is usually spot on, but the video proves an issue, I'll find another spot and test it again

Mini4pro has "Precison" landing, the Neo hasn't got precision landing, hence it is unlikely to land precisely where it took off, sometimes it may be close, but it won't be repeatable, due to lack of precision landing, it doesn't have the hardware to enable it to ever have it.

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

Please keep us updated on the progress and share the video here.

I have noticed my Neo seems to re-position it's "home" many times I fly it.  I'd call RTH extremely unreliable.  I'm sure DJI will fix it though.

No precion landing hardware in the Neo, see above.

Do you notice when it resets "Home" that the number of satellites locked drops to low single digits or zero?

Avata2 was my first DJI UAS. Neo the 2nd.  Wish DJI's  "home" position would lock into where the user is.  If you crash or manually land or for whatever reason shut the motors down a new "Home" position is set.

I'd also like to see the "H" home indicator stay on screen when in RTH mode instead of disappearing.

@OldGuy2024 Usually the home resets when I'm climbing in the number of satellites from already in double digits.  Very odd.  And, yes, locking the home position would be fantastic in all DJI drones.  Only allow resetting by manually requesting it to do so.  There's some automation that just not needed.

i want to add my oservations and thoughts to the RTH function of the NEO:

- The app always starts to want to emergency-land the Neo when reaching 30% when flying with RC-N3. you can keep it flying close to 0% by pushing throttle up (maybe all the way up) the whole time to get back to your place. BUT CAUTION: the NEO AUTOMATICALLY POWERED-OFF instantly as soon as reaching the ground and I was not able to turn in on again at all, even the LED's did not flash at all. changed the battery  and all was fine again and also the particular battery is ok after recharging it.

-"RTH-readiness" oftenly FAILS with message in app DRONE CAN NOT RTH AUTOMATICALLY. It pops up almost every flight (daylight outside calm, clear sky, clear weather, no wind at all but windguts to less than 1m/s) -- I pray I will never really need it,eighter the very mild wind is already "too strong" AND/OR the GPS-sats suddenly drop from 17 to just 9 or 5 or even zero, for no reason (of course outside, clear skies on a free field outside any city and far away from powerlines etc). i suspect a software-bug or connection-trace issue on the pcb.... but it seems a "common problem"

-RTH it is very slow in descending, like 2min from 50m high directly above me until automatic landing on ground (some 7m away from the starting point)

So I decided to test the RTH.  Test conditions were slightly breezy, nothing too bad.  RC-3N was used.   Took off from a park bench, flew until drone had low battery. Drone activated RTH, flew back and landed within a couple of feet from take off.  That was a success to me.

On another forum, where one guy talks a load of crap, saying if less than 50M all DJI drones just land with no RTH, and other crazy stuff (the worrying thing is some people actually listen to him)  this is absolutely not the case, wind and satellite locks will almost certainly be a factor along with long distances I would imagine.  For a cheap tiny drone I thought it performed very well.

Always read the manual, there is very important info in it regarding RTH and what behaviour you can expect.
