This morning was the first day I have been able to fly the Neo in calm conditions.  Not sure if just an issue with me or my specific Neo.  Find it easier to take off in M mode v. taking off in N mode and switching to M mode.  The Neo sort of shakes and rocks when M mode engages when airborn.  Previous days I thought it was the wind and my twitch thumbs. Today, dead calm.  Did the same thing. Could be still twitchy thumbs. In other quads I find taking off and landing in M mode more than challenging.  At least in calm conditions. Taking off in M mode with the Neo is smooth an easy.  Landings?  Have not even tried. Chicken landing. Switch to N mode when close to the landing pad.

Similar experiences?  Also, do you notice a slight backwards drift if you do not compensate with some  subtle forward pitch when taking off in M mode?  Might need to recalibrate the sticks.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out. Manual Mode is Classic FPV control mode with the highest maneuverability. In Manual mode, all flight assistance functions such as precise hovering and braking are unavailable, and proficient control skills are required. This is the reason the flight attitude is might drift in M mode.

I hope this information has helped to clarify your inquiries. If you have any other questions, kindly let us know. Thank You!

I got the neo with the plan to only fly in manual mode using my RC2 controller that came with my mini 4 pro. I was unable to pair the neo with the RC2, so giving up on that, I tried using the DJI Fly app on my phone while inside my house where I did not have to worry about loosing the neo. Well, it took off and soon after it lost the connection with my phone and flew into a wall. Then I read in the user''s manual that WIFI interference can cause a disconnect. There are WIFI signals all over my neighborhood, so next I tried flying the neo in an open parking lot where there was no detectable WIFI. At first the neo would not connect to my phone, so then I turned on the WIFI hotspot on my phone and was able to connect. Then I launched the neo and attempted to fly it about 6 feet off the ground and it was completely uncontrollable with the app so I hit the stop button several times and it crashed upside down on the ground. Needless to say, it was a waste of $200. I have a $30 toy drone that flies better than the neo and does not operate on WIFI frequencies.

From the DJI website:

DJI Neo can be used with the following control devices:
1. Remote Controller: DJI Neo can be used with DJI RC-N3, DJI RC-N2, and DJI RC 2 with O4 video transmission technology.

2. Motion Controller: DJI Neo can be used with DJI RC Motion 3 and DJI Goggles 3 with O4 video transmission technology.
From my understanding. Manual mode is only availabe using the FPV RC3 and Goggles 3.  The Goggles 3 is your "controller".  The FPV RC3 inputs are tranmitted to the Goggles 3 which then transmitts those inputs to the quad.

I cannot pair my DJI rc 2 controller to my neo. It fails to pair. I tried like 20 times.

Updated RC2 firmware?  September update made it compatible with the Neo.  Tried to talk my friend who flies the Mini4 Pro with what I think is the RC2 (controller with the touch screen) to try immersive flying with the Neo.    Also, make sure you have the latest version of the DJI Fly App loaded on your smart phone.

My manual stick skills stink.  Just in from a session ending in a few crashes into trees. Also hit my truck.  Neo is a tough little quad. Zero physical damage.   Need to develop some real manual stick skills. Until then open field manual flying.  S mode in the woods or any tight environments.

Good that it was simple fix.

Is the "Manual Control" on the smart phone app real manual mode.  Suspecting it is some form of DJI's Cine, N, or S mode.  But if truly manual mode the stabilization sensors would be disengaged allow for flying when light levels are too low and/or lack of satellites acquired.

Right now I don't fly the Neo indoors due to it going wonky fly away, no input control under low light/no satellite lock.  Not sure if I would like the feel of virtual sticks vs. real sticks.  Need to develop a high level of manual mode stick skills and really tone down the gain/rates for indoors manual flying.
