I'm having trouble getting the DJI Action 5 to connect to the Shure MV88+. Anyone tried using a Shure MV88+ to the action 5 with succes? Any secrets to it? Any troubleshooting ideas?
The problem seems to be when the external mic is connected through usb-c, the camera doesn't recieve any audio. The camera will suddenly start recording (without commands) and then stop recording on its own. At times the mic will work for short 3 second clips of audio and then will stop again.

I've tried to experiment with different settings on the Shure mic to no avail. Also tried another AKG usb-c mic headset and that seems to record audio without issue. The Shure Mic works fine recording audio via laptop, phone, etc.

Here is a video of the issue I'm having so you can see the combo in action. Audio is from my cell phone.

Hi there,

Thank You for reaching out. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing. You can try the below 2 methods;
1) Purchase the "Osmo Action 3.5mm Audio Adapter", plug it into the USB-C port of device, then you can connect an external microphone to the device
2) Mount the device on the "Osmo Action Multifunctional Charging Handle," plug the handle's USB-C cable into the camera's USB-C port, then youcan connect an microphone to the handle's 3.5mm TRS microphone input port.

For Shure product related assistance hope you'll get the best recommendations from other users in our forum. I hope this information has helped to clarify your inquiries. If you have any other questions, kindly let us know. Thank You!

Hi there,

The Shure MV88+ does not have a 3.5mm plug, it connects digitally through either lightning or usb-c. The device is essentially a miniature audio interface with a stereo mid-side mic connected to it. It converts the analog audio to a digital signal, and then keeps it digital and sends it out through its usb port. The Action 5 does connect to it for about 3 seconds, and receives and records audio, but then disconnects and stops the recording.

Could you give us a little more info as to how the Action 5 handles audio signals? Why do some usb-c microphones connect directly to the action 5 and function but other do not?

What is the purpose for the 3.5mm adapter, is it simply to add an extra 3.5mm jack connector to the configuration? Or is the 3.5mm adapter doing some Analog-to-digital conversion before it hits the Action 5?

Also, any idea why plugging in the Shure MV88+ causes the Action 5 to start and stop recording randomly on its own?

Thanks for the help!

Would the external 3.5mm adapter change the way the the cam

I too cannot make this work (sorry). I also have a Shure MV88+ and the Action 5 Pro. The gain settings show up in the microphone settings but I see no audio bar at the top of the screen as I would expect. This mic works well on the Action 4, so it's a pity it won't on the Action 5. I tried more than one cable too.

Using a different microphone with a 3.5mm plug and USB-C adapter did work ok for me though, on the Action 5.

Incidentally mine starts recording without commands as well but it also did that on my Action 4. It seems like the USB-C ports may be doubling up with some remote control facility.

I'm sorry not to offer a solution but I guess you can know that it may not be you or your set up at fault but more a fault with the Action 5 .Hopefully that might be resolved someday. It's a pity, because it's such a neat little microphone.

Thanks for this reply, glad that I'm not the only one and that there are other options. Hopefully someday this will work, it would be a great combination.
