First off, I am glad to see that we can now buy the Osmo handle by itself ($269), as well as the Osmo X3 camera and gimbal ($439).

But now I am trying to wrap my head around the differences between the Inspire X3 (IX3) and the Osmo X3 (OX3)...

Both look basically identical, except for black vs white of course. The IX3 is $550, the OX3 is $439. So what makes the IX3 $110 better???

The IX3 work on the Inspire and the Osmo. The OX3 only works on the Osmo, even though I seem to recall hearing that before release the OX3 did work on the Inspire. Ideally I would love to be able to use the OX3 on the Inspire, and I am somewhat hopeful about that happening. (In the annoucement thread, @DJI-Tim wrote: "For the moment, Osmo camera cannot be used on inspire 1...").

Both camera do 4k, but the OX3 also has 1080p@120fps (which would be very nice for the IX3). And the OX3 also records audio. Plus, the OX3 gimbal seems to have a larger degree of tilt/pitch. OX3 has 170° (- 35° to +135°) and the IX3 has 120° (-90° to +30°).

It would be great if @DJI-Autumn or @DJI-Tim could explain why the IX3 is more expensive than the OX3, when the OX3 looks like a slightly improved version on the IX3. Any insights would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Does this mean the X3 from the Inspire mounted on Osmo still does have no sound????? I thought the Osmo itself recored the sound not the camera?

Good question.

I think it would, but I was just going by the Specs page for both cameras. The OX3 lists: Audio Output: Two Channel, 48 KHz, AAC. The IX3 does not.

It's probably part of the firmware update you have to go through to make the IX3 work on the Osmo.

The OSMO X3 has some additional features like the ability to lock.   Could be they left off some stuff that the OSMO doesn't need that the Inspire does.

I think the original OSMO prototypes just used the Inspire 1 X3 so it was "compatible" by default, not as a standalone camera.

The audio is built into the OSMO, not the X3 so regardless of which camera you use the audio is present.

I am assuming that there is a reason, but just looking at things on paper it looks like the OX3 is offering more for less money.

I think it would go a long way if someone could officially give us a better understanding.

Because of the locking capabilities it does appear that way but I think it's entirely possible that they left out a bunch of stuff that was only relevant to the Inspire that brought the price down.

If not it seems like it would be easy enough to make it compatible with the Inspire.

One question:
Can the IX3 camera be able to record at 1080p@120fps on Osmo after the upgrade?
I hope it can, otherwise it will be less attractive to mate the Osmo handle with Inspire 1 camera

The focus of the IX3 is set at infinity, big difference with the OX3

Except focal length osmo's FW is also not compatible with inspire's firmware

The OX3 seems to have trouble in high G situations, like hanging it out the car window while driving.  I had problems with random wobbles in the video, but haven't had any with the IX3.  In fact, I took it on a few rides at a carnival and it worked perfectly.
