When I first stated reading this brilliant forum, most negative posts were regarding fly-aways.
Then the fashion changed to unsuccessful FW updates.
Now it appears that Falling from the Sky is the topic of the month.
And just appearing is the sudden battery failure syndrome.
With a smattering of props flying off.
So just wave after wave of different failure modes which some people have experienced and shared, others have dismissed because they have not yet experienced it. But you can be sure that if your P3 fails in any one of the modes, there is virtually nothing you can do about it, no aerodynamic lift, so will accelerate down at 9.81 m/s/s, then just hope that it does not hit anyone, or anything expensive. And realise that you will have to buy another if you want to continue to fly.
So flight safety can only be addressed in one way, don't fly over any one or anything that you don't control or is not aware what you are doing.
Which leaves us to adopt what model aircraft fliers do, go to an isolated area, built for the purpose, take off from there, fly there, land there and don't let your P3 go out of sight. It is the only way to safely fly.
BUT WHAT FUN WOULD YOU GET OUT OF THAT !?!
Instead we fly from virtually anywhere, over virtually anywhere, take photos and film of virtually anything, often go out of sight, usually over people and very often in a built up area, and pilots are mostly uninsured. We are the last bandits/banditos/cowboys/free-sprits left on this planet.
So I guess you must do what we all do:
inspect our P3s after every flight, and before the next flight
ensure that we have latest firmware
check all of your sensors
take off only with 100% battery charge
do a little hover and manoeuvre check at about 6 feet altitude immediately after take off, and land if anything unusual happens
keep an eye on this forum to pick up any warnings from other users or from DJI themselves
be sensible and safety concious ??
and just hope and pray that every time you take off, nothing goes wrong with your P3 whilst you are flying.
Good luck.
