Just wanted to mention that my P3A videos were 2.7K MP4. My tv could not play those from the usb stick.
When i got a P3P, i recorded a 4K MOV and that played fine on the TV. I still have to test with a 4K MP4.

My P3P 4K MP4s don't play on my smart tv, media players, blueray, etc (but they play fine on the laptop). To play on TV I convert them to MP4. Yes MP4 to MP4.

Interesting...MP4 is supposed to be the overall "MOST COMPATIBLE" format compared to MOV.   IS DJI MP4 a non-compatible version of MP4?!

Thats probably because when you re-convert it to MP4, the bitrate is probably A LOT lower than the original 4K video from the P3P. The original video is 40Mbps. Your Tv probably does not support such a high bit rate?

It would be a pretty useless TV if it did not support that bit rate, my Sony supports rates up to around 100 Megabits/second.

Variations on this question arise all the time here, just because DJI make a camera that shoots in 4K does not mean you will be able to play it. Few computers can handle it, and even less TV sets. And no, there is nothing incompatible about the MP4 file the camera produces, I have a powerful editing computer and it handles the files perfectly. YMMV.

What are the specs on the computer youre talking about?

Corsair case with liquid cooling, 800 watt Corsair power supply, Asus X79 Deluxe MB, 32 GB G.Skill RAM, 6 Core I7 processor 5930K, 2x ASUS Radeon R9 290, all SSD storage.

Its a couple of years old now, but still does the job.

It depends on your PC and TV. Does it works well with 1080p?

TV's do not understand bitrate, they understand resolution. Players/decoders understand bitrate. If your playback device you present video to your tv does not support 4k decode it will never reach the tv, some decoders will down sample 4k to a resolution your tv can display. This downsampling of 4k footage is not a simple or fast process and in most cases can not be accomplished in real time or in a time frame that makes it viewable. You need to trans-code your footage "Optimize it" Check out these encoder I wrote specifically to address these issues, both for the Yuneec Q500+ and 4k footage as well as all DJI camera.
products and video resolutions.  http://hypedphoto.com/q500mods/index.php/q500-video-encoder/

4k TV manufactures are in a middle stage, some don't support 4k from USB stick at all, 4k from HDMI only. ( not all) Check your models specs

Even a piece of crap computer from two years ago should be able to at least open and play a 4k file. Sure it might not play smoothly but it should play at least at a lower frame rate. As for the TV. The app it uses to play 4k, might not support the high bitrate produced by phantom 3. That's what I meant to say in my previous post. Hence a re transcode to a lower but rate 4k would probably work for you.

Yeah? Windows media player still does not open a 4K file, even on Windows 10, so I don't know where you get that idea from. Quicktime might, but frequently chokes on 4K. the only player I know that reliably handles 4k is VLC Player, and its free.

There is something unusual about the dji 4K codec. In my editing software Edius Pro8 it will play fine but when rendering out to a final 4K file it takes simply ages even with the latest processor. It is only 60mb/s as compared to Panasonic 4k which is 100mb/s. The Panasonic 4K renders and plays much better.
Sony Vegas 13 Pro render the DJI 4K video much faster. The GoPro $k files aslo play and render much faster than the DJI 4K files.
My Samsung 55 UHD TV plays all types of 4K files smoothly from a memory stick or Harddrive.

I can't say, as I put the 4K footage through Resolve first to colour correct it and downscale to 1080p. Then I edit the result in Vegas Pro 13.

But the very fact that it is 60 mb/s is a clue, that means it is more highly compressed than say a 100 mb/s file, and a higher compression means more work for the decoder and render engine. I am guessing that DJI use a high compression algorithm to make the result less dependant upon the write speed of the SD card. This means we can get away with using lower cost SD cards.

Blackmagic, for example, have to specify a very high spec card because the write rate for their RAW files is much greater, and only one make of card reliably does the job.

Not sure what issue you have but I can open a 4k MP4,or MKV without any issue in windows media player in Windows 10. Sure vlc works fine too.

I have a Samsung js9500 SUHD TV. That can play 4k mov directly of the USB drive too. Haven't tested with a mo4 file yet.
