Hi,

I just got my Phantom 3 Advanced, and can't get the firmware to update.

When I insert the SD card and turn it on:
-Front lights solid red, rear flash yellow for a bit before turning red
-Normal start up noise
-Gimbal centers
-Gimbal occasionally beeps three times (beeeeep beep beep) and occasionally flashes green

I have reformatted, tried other firmwares, and done plenty of things... Going from 1.1.9+ to 1.5.

it is recommended you update to 1.03.002 first before going to the latest firmware if your on 1.1.9 .... that's what iv read ....

I've tried that too. Can't get it to start any update.

I recently called DJI. They told me to leave it on for 5 minutes, then power cycle and try again. I've done that 5 times and haven't gotten the yellow/green gimbal flashing or 4 quick beeps.

do you mean your letting it update for 5 mins ? or do you mean your waiting 5 mins then trying again ?

What is on your SD card? Make sure any old .txt file has been removed and the .bin file has been copied into the root directory of your SD card.

Also, make sure the RC is NOT connected and NOT turned on. Your external device - either Android or Apple, should also be non-connected and not on.

Ah, sorry. I wait 5 minutes but since it doesn't even start the update (gimbal light flashing, quick beeping) I turn it off and try again.

Was told to return it. Sad times.

Ordering a new one.

There is/was a problem with the DJI download website, not your drone. I was told this about an hour ago.
It, the new firmware wasn't uploaded correctly to the website. So not sure how some are still able to update their drone's.
Anyway, It has been advised to try again after 6:00pm MST. IT should have been fixed by then, is the info I was given.
So before sending your drone away for two months, try again in two hours or less. ;-)

But would this also be breaking the old ones (1.3 is what I was trying to install).

Not sure, I was just informed about today's latest new firmware files FIASCO.
So, You might want to send an email message or a phone call to @DJI HQ on that one.

I was going to give it until 6:30pm, it's almost 6:15 nearly now. ;-)

What, you thought I would be on it at 6:00pm sharp? Hehe

I should have done all this last night. But who knows what that file, they pulled down, represented?

Yeah, another 1/4hr and I'll give it another "Go"!! ;-)

I'll just say that I'm super skeptical. It's not like the .bin on the website was 0mb.

It's pretty disappointing to be all ready to fly a new drone, with great weather too, and be greeted with firmware updates that don't install.

I was able to update my P3 Advanced tonight. Brand new out of the box, running the 1.3FW. Did the update to the 1.4 via the Android App (1.5 was/is not yet pushed through the app). Once that was done the app was still complaining that the firmware was not up to date (the aircraft and the camera) so I put the P3S_FW_V01.05.0030.bin file on the SDCARD (16GB one that came with). Popped the card in the aircraft, powered it on. Updated fine.

I know this may not help, but I would try another SDCARD, or, if you can pop the card in your PC do the following to totally clean/format it.


1. Put card in PC. (Assuming Windows XP, 7, 8, Windows 10).
2. Open Command Prompt *as Admin*.
3. Type diskpart
4. Hit Enter.
5. Type list disk
6. Hit Enter.
7. type select disk #

Where the # is your SDCARD.

8. Press Enter.
9. Type clean
10. Press Enter.

Open Administrative Tools from Control Panel in Windows. Navigate to Disk Management -> Storage. Right click on your SDCARD blank partition and create a new partition. Format as Fat32 if possible. If not, use EXFAT.

Once Done, put the .bin back on the SDCARD. Try the update again.


I used Fat32 with my 16GB card.

Good grief, that's quite a recipe of instructions. I hope that I won't have to resort to that.
But, If all else fails, I just may try that. Someone else had suggested trying this earlier:
I wonder if there would be any harm, to place and load the Advanced bin file on my Professional model.
See if the files were mixed up on the website? Would it not do anything, if it wasn't correct. Because the correct files aren't loading at all either.

If you are using the GL300A RC, please updated the RC firmware to 1.3.20 with the micro SD card . Then , update the firmware of the aircraft .

Haha, ya. Seems pretty simple.

But anyway, my Phantom is already packed up to return and I ordered another from B&H. Wish I could have flown it over thanksgiving but I guess I'll have to wait.

That's pretty much what I said. Re-read what I wrote - I suggested the only thing that should be on the card is the .bin file - in the root directory.

Any "left-over" .txt file should be removed.

I am going to be extremely careful when my new one arrives. It's a crummy feeling to have a broken drone out of the box, especially with this perfect weather.

But oh well. Maybe the weather will be good next weekend (although it sounds like it'll be windy and rainy).

I'm feeling so sorry !  However , hope you enjoy your flight then !
