Anyone heard anything on the release date of the X5R? I'm getting impateint...;)

A case of 'Shaka and the walls fell' I reckon.

Given the history of their last few releases I'd hold off for a while until they sort the bugs out.

Well hopefully Sokath's eyes become uncovered soon because a few of us are waiting for details on this thing.

It's tempting to just buy the X5 seeing all the "nicer" footage using the MFT sensor but I know RAW and higher bit will be a lot better. Come on DJI!

Can't wait for the X5R ? I totally understand you ! Unfortunately , I don't know the exact date too .

Same the jump from 8-bit 60mbs to 12-bit 1700mbs video is a massive increase in image quality.  The Blackmagic Micro Camera also has no shipping date but im hoping a mount for it comes out on the Inspire 1.

still no word or update from DJI on this. DJI should take notes from RED Digital Cinema. A company that truly listens and cares about it's customers keeping them informed and up to date. It's not hard to send an e-mail blast with an update on production issues, R&D developments etc.

You're right, DJI isn't a public company to be liable to their shareholders and no competitor ever hinted at a possibility of releasing a raw aerial camera that would benefit from delay announcement in any way.

An Australian company. $10,299 AUS I'm assuming. With the conversion to USD that's $7,338. No thanks.

I'd would be nice to see some actual footage or even better yet a 30 sec CinemaDMG Raw clip to grade before pre-ordering.

I agree, A clip to test with would be nice. I feel everything is hush hush with the X5R.... and I do not understand why. For example: we know the bitrate recording RAW to SSD, what about bitrate to Micro SD? The X5R is not using the same internals as the X5 and X3... So I would assume there is SOOO much room for what can be done on the micro SD when you do not need RAW. I asked for this info in another thread, was told that info is not available. same with the price / availability of the proprietary SSD's, again, no info.

Thank you for the update. I thought the limiting factor for the recording bitrate for the x5 and the x3 was the internals like the chips used... I would have thought the X5R would be a whole redesign. Is there a particular reason we are still stuck at 60?

I'm sorry, I just report what specs are. I have no idea how engineers decide on why or why-not things are different or the same.

Why would you record to the SD when you have the ability to record to the SSD at a much hire bitrate and in RAW? Who cares if its throttled to 60 on the SD. I won't be ever using the SD unless it can record to the SD and SSD simultaneously (which I doubt) as a failsafe.

With all the different work I do, RAW will not always be needed. But it would be nice to have higher quality to the Micro SD. Will just have to see how things end up in the long run after there are updates.

I noticed DJI has a transferring program for the X5R that allows you to convert the footage to 10-bit Prores while transferring.  If this works well it will come in very handy on lower end productions that still want great IQ.

Here is another reason to want to record to the SD, At $1500 for an extra SSD, I do not see myself buying an extra to get additional recording time... but higher data rates to the SD would be good for the footage that you do not need recorded in RAW so you dont fill up the SSD in what.. 20 min or so?

You can't spare the time to off-load 500gb of footage to your laptop in the field before flying again? Common.

Someone will make aftermarket drives I think.........I hope........
When I am out doing Doco style stuff I don't know if I could spare the downtime to injest, and then not have backup, so whether I like it or not I will be forced to spend as much on cards as I do the camera.
Going to need multiply readers also to injest at night during downtime......

Can I? Sure can, should I NEED to I feel is the right question. Here is my issue: the limited data rate of the x5 is a "hardware" limitation. Thats fine and dandy, I just dont understand how with the new hardware in the X5R that is capable of recording RAW at HIGH data rates, we are still limited to the same data rate on the SD. Eventually I will be using the X5R on the OSMO as well as my inspire and with the work I do, I will be offloading OFTEN. I just dont feel I should still be limited, its either top data rate, or low. We should have a nice middle ground for when we dont need the RAW video.
I dont feel that is unreasonable. I would think you would be on my side with this.
Ill just have to see how much video can be recorded to the SSD once I get it. Sure, over time I will get more efficient with getting the right shot the first time ( will have to) and it will be less of an issue.
