hello, Just purchased a spare Phantom 3 controller this controller arrived with a old firmware having problems connecting to my phantom 3 Firmware 1.5.0030Here the steps

1. Turn on controller with phantom OFF.
2. Click on dji go and click on Link controller with 60 seconds countdown time.
3. Use a pin or needle switch on the phantom 3 nothing happens.

Update the controller to the 1.3.20 firmware ( and them to the latest available via the App )

If you are using the GL300A RC , Please upgrade your RC firmware to 1.3.2 with a SD card .Then update the firmware to the latest version 1.5.7 with DJI Go app. If you've purchased a GL300B ,  please upgrade the firmware straight to 1.5.7 via DJI Go .
