is it me or does it seem that bees are attracted to drones? im finding way to many videos online about bees swaming drones.  i just got my phantom this november and where i live no bees are around at this time (thank god). but this has me a bit concerned since i have a phobia when it comes to bees

p.s i know the phantom is a quadcopter! but the videos im finding on youtube are refering to it as drone ;\

When you kill one, or when they lose the dreaded stinger, a combat pheromone is released
that attracts the older drones to commit Harry Kerry, on your Drone Azz. ;-)

the props would chop them up for sure. and the wind from the props would force them off i think. im pretty sure they wouldnt hurt it. but that might make a larger swarm i think. i am not looking forward to summer flying!

I've flown a few times within 25 yards of honeybee hives and have not attracted any attention from them.  Maybe I've just been lucky and not set off the "death pheromone" reaction.

When flying my Hubsan back in April I caught one on video.  Keep in mind the hubsan isn't much larger than a good sized bumble bee.  None so far while flying the P3, but I suspect I'll have some near misses once spring rolls around.  About 20 seconds into this video you'll see the bee doing a few fly by attempts.
(sorry for the shakey video--the Hubsan is no comparison for stability on a hot & windy day)

Outrun your buddy(s), have an epipen ready (if allergic), or enjoy a puffy look for a while.  :-)

Don't give up on the summer....the bees/wasps/hornets are actually more aggressive towards and into fall when their food supply is limited.  Ground hornets are the worst ones in Georgia during the month of November.  You don't see them until you start to feel the sting and you have to run quite some distance to get away.  Just wear a beekeeper suit and you'll be fine.  :-)
