Hey, just released my newest video, "Roadtrip New Mexico".  Spent a week with the Inspire and new X5 camera driving around New Mexico looking for cool landscapes to test out the camera with.  Here is the result.  Hope you enjoy!

It's a little hard to say because there were times we were flying at altitude and in the cold.  But flight time seems to have dropped to between 11-13 minutes with the heavier X5 camera.

I am wondering if it is the extra weight or does the camera require more power. 11 Minutes seems to be the norm from forum members.

Yeah i agree. When I fly my P3 after flying my Inspire I keep checking the battery, thinking it has got to be time to land soon. But no I still have over 1/2 the pack left.
I am hopefull that battery technology will continue to improve and we will see longer flight times with the I1/X5 combo.

Flightgeist, excellent job. These are the eat type of shots I am wanting to get myself. Very jealous. Over what perid of time were all these shots taken? How much time in the field did you spend getting these shots?

Hey everyone, thanks for the overwhelmingly positive responses to the video.  To answer a bunch of questions in one post: we spent about 7 days shooting.  We have 7 batteries (5x 47s and 2x48s) and we would generally shoot out all of them in the morning, try to recharge as many as possible during lunch or while traveling to another location, then shoot out between 2-5 batteries in the afternoon, depending on weather and other factors.  We did some research about beautiful areas in New Mexico, so we went with a few places plotted out on the map and a rough idea of where we would go.  But during the day as we would drive we were basically scouting for the next day's shoot.  Captured lot of other cool shots that didn't make it into the final video but that's how it goes.  Thanks again everyone!

Dave, the flight time is stopping me from buying the I1 Pro. While I have you, a question? What is the flight time of the Inspire 1 V2? Is the V2 exactly the same as the Pro (air frame, supports, motors and arms) excluding the camera on the pro?

Flightgeist, would you mind sharing your settings?  Specifically aperture.

It really depends on the lighting and the intent of the shot.  Generally we keep the aperture high, around 11, to make sure there is a lot of depth of field.  On some shots, like the snowflake shot or during a situation where we want to focus in on a specific feature, we will open up the aperture pretty wide, like to a 4.  In really bright sunlight we'll use an ND6 or ND9 filter to avoid closing the lens all the way down.  I would say that for the most cinematic look it would be nice to have your shutter speed between 1/50 and 1/120 and have your aperture between 5.6 and 8.

Those are stunning shots and beautifully edited. I am a novice - just got an X5 but haven't flown it yet. A basic question, maybe, but how do you get those shots when you are flying sideways and simultaneously rotating slightly?  Do you rotate the camera as the copter moves laterally? Or is the copter itself rotating and moving sideways? Are you using 2 controllers?

First off Flightgeist excellent job on the video and editing. We'll be making one of or trips to Colorado in the spring so I hope to get some footage similar to yours. We have our "flight plan" (so to speak) already mapped out. Weather permitting we'll get similar results.

Roger,

I am in the same boat as you at the moment with the X5 camera. I've got the v2.0 (just so I could upgrade to the X5 at a later date) and although the camera is nice and takes beautiful shots it seems to require some more post processing than the X5 would. Not a big deal to me but flight time is a concern which is why I bought the Inspire 1 instead of the pro. I can average (depending on temp) around 15 mins with the 48 batteries which seem to be enough time to get my  shots. Once in the air I never stop rolling as you never know what you might want to keep and you can always leave the footage that you don't want on the cutting room floor.

Thanks again for the great video Flightgeist. Well done

Amazing landscapes and beautiful smooth flying. Also quality of the final footage is very high, which I can't seem to be able to get out of my x5. I shoot raw .mov then import into FCPX then color correct, crop to 1080 and grade. Then export to ProRes 422 but not even close to your footage. I would really appreciate it if give some pointers on your workflow.

I personally would buy the V2.0 so if in the future you would like to mount the X5 to it you have that option. Plus the upgraded prop mounts, gimble, and motors.
