Last month my P3A lost all power and fell from 200 feet. I contacted DJI support and sent it in for repair.  After a few daysof being received I checked the repair status which showed "repair inprogress" and "free of charge".  This causes me to assume the crash was not piloterror.  It is now on its way back to me.  I have no clue what causedthe power failure but hopefully I will get some info when I received it thiscoming Monday.  Now I am left wondering what caused the power failure andwas it firmware related.  At the time of the crash I was running firmwareversion 1.5.0030 as the crash occurred before version 1.6.0040 had beenreleased.

In past posts is has been apparent somepeople preferred running older firmware versions.  So I put it out toeveryone, which firmware version are you running and why?

Seems to me that 1.6 is The One right now as Power Management (The built-in computer charger) has been improved, a 10c Temp Limit has been introduced and a Temp Related adjustment of Max Throttle have been implemented.
Bad Luck is hard to do something about though

Yea,  I was reluctant to change all of my batteries to 1.6 so I did 2 of the 3, the third one is on 1.5.  I feel it is better to suffer some speed reduction than to have your bird fall out of the sky.  If i lived in Hawaii I might take a chance but I live on the east coast of USA so I am not taking any chances.

It's advisable to update to 1.6. That will keep your batteries healthy.

1.5 had battery voltage for cold weather issues as well as vibrations.

I guess 1.5 would probably explain my power failure issue.  I hope I get some kind of confirmation as to that when I get my P3A back.  

1.4 is the one you will have the least problems.

1.7 for me

1.4 here and absolutely zero issues. Hesitant to update since many see vibration past 1.4.

I flew 1.5 at -1 to +1 temperatures with zero problems. But I always flew it after taking outside from a 23 degree Celsius apartment and hovering for one full minute before throttling up. I updated to 1.6 and it worked OK. Flew it for a week and now  backdated to 1.5. Works fine. I take the precautions.

I've used 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 with no issues so far but then again I'm a newbie and with weather conditions have only flown any 3 of those versions only a couple flights each and only at the most about 100' away from me.

Newbie here! How do I check what firmware is currently loaded on my craft? I received my P3P for Christmas 2015. I'm assuming it has the most current firmware regarding cold weather flying? But it sure. Thanks.

I had no issues with my P3 Pro until I upgraded to 1.5 and 1.6 this weekend.  It drifts like a drunk sailor.  I did all the calibrations too.  I tried to go back to v1.4, but no, not allowed.  I guess I am grounded until DJI releases v1.7.

Go to your DJI  GO app,  Go to the main Flight screen, go to the top right hand corner and  open General Settings,  On the very bottom of that menu you will see   ...  it is the 6th choice down, It is the About Menu.

This is where you will find your current Go App version, The  RC version, and the Aircraft Version.

Depending on your choice of operating system, your aircraft may have to be powered up (not flying of course and your Transmitter on )  This is how I like to check all my settings and make sure they are programmed into the aircraft.

Have Fun and remember to start slowly and build your knowledge base and experience.

If you've done an IMU calibration on a perfectly lever surface and it's drifting all over the place, then you need to do a compass calibration again in a different area. Make sure you are away for metal and nothing in your pockets like keys/phone.
If you get a good calibration and the IMU has good calibration, the specs are it should hover and not move more than 1.5m but honestly, mine and most others will hover way better then the specs state.

I haven't updated any firmware ever since I got the plane...The version is still 1.1.x

My friend told me if you are satisfied with one firmware, stick to it, don't do any upgrade.

1.4 for me and it's working perfectly so I have no need to upgrade. I did upgrade to 1.5 and within 30 seconds of taking off it lost GPS signal so went straight back to 1.4 and it's been fine since. If it's not broken...

I was on 1.3 and then updated to 1.4 when it was released. Due to drift issues, I reverted back to 1.3. Now I just went back to 1.4, checked the txt file to make sure the update had no errors and all is good so far. Had to update to 1.4 in order to use the flight modes especially the 3rd party apps. These apps did not work on 1.3. At this time, I see no reason to go to 1.5 or 1.6. I know 1.6 contains a battery update but I haven't had the issues others have reported.

You cannot download 1.4 from the website anymore.

I had my P3 Advanced fall out of the sky as well -- still waiting to hear what DJI Support has to say about the repairs.  Luckily, I've got a backup bird and can fly that one in the meantime.  It's now running the 1.6.0040 firmware.

I think the one that crashed was running the 1.3 firmware...

Why did they take 1.4 off the dji DL page? I'm on 1.3.2 and would like 1.4 for the added flight modes.... Can I potentially update to the 1.4 if I find someone with the zip file saved, or at worst go to 1.5 off the web site and leave my remote on 1.3.2 and go app on 2.4?

DJI Ken, I would like to try version 1.7 but am unable to get anyone to respond to me concerning an IOS version of the update. Does it exist? Will you assist me in getting a link?

I'm using fw 1.4 which is what my p3p came with. Every time I fly it's great but I'm always nervous as the go app says my p3 the RC and the battery need firmware updates. I think I will continue to ignore this for a while until I hear great reports from 1.7 or which ever version is praised.

There's a lot of things if the updates that you really should have, especially the battery management update.
You don't have to update, but just remember if you don't and the aircraft crashes and determined that it could have been prevented if you updated then you will be paying the repair bill.

FW is 1.4.1....RC is 1.4.3 (?).... and app is 2.4.3.  This was the beginning of DJI sneaking in the NFZ's and such with the disguise of fixing battery issues. Once I learned that they did this unbeknownst to the owners I no longer trusted them with any other update.....period!

i tried 1.5 then 1.6 and both had major issues with them...  

1.5 camera had horizon issues, updated to 1.6 and video lag and loss came into play along with strange symptoms while the aircraft was in the air..  I landed the craft and immediately reverted back to 1.4 and have no issues with it since..

What you you mean video lag, if you had any video lag then you are not using a recommended device. As time goes on, the app may get more and powerful so you may need to use the recommended devices.
And please explain the strange symptoms?
If you can get the DAT files from that flight I will gladly have the file analyzed to see if there was anything unusual in your flight.

How did you manage to go back to 1.4 if you went up to 1.6? I hear that's not possible... You can only go back 1 level, so 1.5 to 1.4 or 1.6 to 1.5. 1.6 to 1.4 can't be done...
Edit: wow after reading here http://thedailydroner.com/threads/dji-phantom-3-firmware.11/ I see that there is a bin file to remove any firmware and reload the one you want so that is great news!

1.6 here, live in Colorado Rockies area, so have flown when temps were only in the "teens".  No issues.   Looked at what DJI has "geo-fenced" as NFZs and believe those areas should be NFZs....

1.4 here... No issues but a slight drift to the left when slowly flying forward... Might need to do an IMU calibration...
