My Phantom 3 Advanced is finally coming in the mail
My question is, when I get it should I upgrade the firmware to 1.6 or keep it at 1.4?
Does 1.6 have geofence embedded in it?
Also, what are some useful videos/forums I could read through before the bird arrives?

Seems to me that there's too many improvements in 1.6 to not smack it in.
For Geofence info have a look at the prpagan uuh promo vid

Currently I think GeoFence only covers airports unless you go for the Beta which can unlock them (for now)

There are many people kicking themselves in the ass for not staying at 1.4 and wishing they could go back.  Im on 1.4 and have no plans on moving forward. Im having no problems. Why would i be so stupid as to ask for trouble. The choice is yours.

If you referring to vibration - it is present in FW 1.4 as well and any before it, but FW 1.6 has low temperature battery fix, so it may be worse upgrading to for some folks. There is nothing special in FW 1.4, same bugs really, may be more.

Folks reporting vibration with 1.4 and 1.3. The cause is low temp and bugs in all existing FW versions AFAIK. It is first winter for P3, no one knew there is a problem until it got cold outside. FW 1.5 and 1.6 just were released when it started to get cold. I am on 1.6 and I am not kicking anything, just small gain adjustments were all it took to keep it nice and steady. But at least it is not going to fall on the middle of the flight with 1.6 battery fix.

From recent posts - P3A are coming with FW 1.5 loaded from DJI, so you do not need to worry about FW versions.

Is there a way I can downgrade to 1.4?

I've kept my p3p at 1.4. Read too many upset people with vibrations to risk messing with mine when it flies great out the box with 1.4. The choice is yours, the risks are clearly there...

Nope! Only down one level so to 1.5 which I hear is even worse... If I do upgrade its when a new fw comes out that everyone praises ;)

According to DJI staff on the forum these features are not in 1.6 and will be in a later update.

That would be unlucky with what I've read about fw 1.5 fw 1.6 was rushed out to fix 1.5 issues which might explain why 1.6 has issues too I'm so happy mine came with fw 1.4

DJI recommends updating to the latest firmware (currently 1.6) and out of the hundreds of thousands sold a few had a vibration and many cleared it by lowering the gains.
Also, the video tutorials and full PDF manual are in the app. when opening the app the top right icon (graduation hat) takes you into those features.

The GEO Beta app is in firmware 1.7 for the aircraft and the app is only available to test on Android and you have to download it form the DJI website.

Waite, but if my bird comes with 1.5, I can downgrade one level to 1.4 it shouldn't come with 1.6..

I will let you guys know what firmware my P3A comes with!!

Thank you I will look into it! Can't waite for my P3A to arrive, I am still stuck with a F450 that I built myself, but I won't sell my F450 it has to many memories.

If the F450 was your last DJI product, you are truly going to be amazed. I would spend some time reading the manual and watching the videos, after that you'll be good.

Mine hasn't fallen yet.  P3P 1.1.9 and I got town to 25% battery on one flight.

How do I tell what firmware is loaded onto my P3A?

When it's all connected go to go app and click the top right icon scroll down to the bottom and click about. Should all be there, fw for RC, go app version and fw for your p3 as well. I'm using the latest app version with the latest RC version and left my fw as it came on the p3p.  I am tempted to upgrade fw just really nervous and don't want to mess it up as has happened to so many, some bricking their phantom as well, others just unhappy afterwards with performance. If they sold it with fw 1.4 then hey it must be fine to fly at that level fw and as Wolfiesden says they are well happy at 1.1.9 which is well lower fw.
The choice is up to you. the DJI recommendation is do it. But are you brave enough ;) ha ha ha I'm not just yet anyhow. I have dl it to my of from the DJI website maybe when I get more confidence ;) but for now it flies so good so why mess with it.

Also am I right in believing the only upgrade function from 1.4 to 1.6 is that if fixes a bug for the intelligent battery in extreme cold weather? As some p3's were falling out the sky when they got to cold? If so,I fly in warm weather any how's

Yeah where I live it never gets cold.
