No flying around the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, inner city Sydney and Melbourne and beware of the many tourist helicopters at the Twelve Apostles.

You will Not need to register to fly as a hobby, but you will if you are planning to fly for commercial/profit reasons. I assume you want to fly as a hobby, so you should be ok..

Please follow the CASA gudelines in the web pages posted above. Dont ignore them as CASA has been known to serve infringement notices!
The people are very friendly, and some will ask you lots of questions about your P3. I have never had a bad (or even close to bad) experience.

If in doubt, just ask the relevant park rangers etc. if you can fly. The answer is usually yes. people are always willing to listen and help.

Also ask if you are allowed to take pictures/video. Interestingly, one of the Rangers near the treasury in the city was ok for me to fly as long as I didn't take any pictures..... Hmmmm! :-/

Hah, fat chance. CASA never get out of their desks and go anywhere unless there is a crash.

CASA has made at least one prosecution that I'm aware of: http://eftm.com.au/2015/01/850-d ... gal-drone-use-19067  (but they didn't need to leave their office for that one )

Couple of others been referred to DPP but haven't heard if they proceeded

Hey Geebax. Why don't you challenge them.  Let's see if they get out of their offices.
Just make sure you post your challenge video on YouTube....

Hmm no, don't think I will, never been one to whack the hornet's nest and run..... unless I can do it on the internet. But CASA is a pretty toothless tiger.

Toothless tiger..., Yes I gotta agree to some extent.  But I also think majority of Aussie p3/inspire pilots are astute and tend to fly responsibly. I'm know it's a generalisation but  I have come across numerous responsible pilots who fly within regulations but have yet to meet somebody that I felt was flaunting the rules.  Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Australia is a big country with a relatively low population.
There is a lot of room to fly drones and hundreds of great locations to photograph.
If you are driving up part of the east coast you will have no shortage of flying opportunities.

Australia is a UAV pilot/photographers paradise. You will find amazing places to fly and photograph almost everywhere. Just keep the batteries charged,
