hello
i am a new phantom 3 advanced and i am using my ipad mini (very first version) while DJI recomends to use at least ipad mini 2 i think.
does anyone know what are the benefits of using a more recent version of the ipad aside from screen quality?

I tried a first addition mini and found that there was a considerable delay in updating the video as well as controlling aspects of the drone.  I switched to an ipad 2 mini and the problem went away.

thanks for your reply. so basically you recomend that i upgrade to a new ipad mini? live video feed is very bad on my ipad mini first version but i am not really sure what other improvements i will have

I am having drastic issues on my ipad mini 2.  Choppy/laggy footage and when I switch video resolution the app crashes every time.  Can't find an answer anywhere.

The first generation iPads are not suitable, you need a faster processor to run the DJI Go App. It is not worth persisting with an older iPad, as you will just have on-going problems.

Geebax hit it on the head. I had to get the iPad Air2 which has the A8 chip to keep up with  the video feed.

I too had to get an iPad Air2 when my iPad2 wouldn't work anymore.

Yes, if you can afford it the iPad Air 2 is the way to go.

I use the Mini 4. Plenty of speed, great screen and most of all it is not bulky. I started with an iPad Air and it was just to big. I also found that using the larger iPad screen was a bit difficult in that I was searching all around the screen for the icons whereas the Mini 4 screen was smaller and I have a greater overall view of the icons.

The shield works great.  No issues at all for me except the screen is hard to see in the sun without a shade.

Hi Ken, I haven't seen that. I use the DJI Shield on the Mini4, works great. I'll look into NVIDIA.

I got it today and app works fine, I will test it with the P4 in a bit.
I do with I used the Shield with the one battery I have. I saw a YouTube video where the ActiveTrack lost the person jogging in the grass as he tried to go out of frame.
I had my iPad (I'll screen record on the Shield tomorrow) and fully tested ActiveTrack and I could not get it to lose track of me. I tried to run sideways back and forth and the camera would not lose me.
The ActiveTrack is amazing.

I watched that. I am sure that there will be updates galore as the input from the field rolls in. You have to accept that with so many new features. Glad to hear everything is working properly.

If you have a wife that can fly the P4 you are gonna have to be careful at play time !

Possibly, all I can say is I've had all the Phantoms and I was amazed at the P3, but this P4 blew my socks off. I really love it.

I am sure that I will be. The tracking feature is very interesting. I can think of a load of uses for it. And the Weather is finally breaking here in New England. The P3P is going for a ride today for the first time in a number of months. Spring Fever and I have to do a few photos for an upcoming legal proceeding.

Nice, since it hasn't been used for months, don't forget to calibrate the IMU, compass, and gimbal.
Also, update firmware and couldn't hurt to calibrate your batteries.

I also used an iPad mini (1-st generation) but I don't advice to use it because it is too slowly, you can see some benefits if you disable video cache on "General Settings" menu.

You definitely need the speed of the new Mini Processor, especially with the 4K. The Mini is just the right size for me.

I love the screen record, but I kinda like my Mini 3 better. They both have about the same screen brightness, but it just seems like the Mini flows a little better.
And I like the home button on the Mini. An the Shield, to exit the GO app you have to go tot he home screen then you have access to the back and exit buttons.
Guess I'm just used to having a physical home button.

iPad Mini 2 can be had for $200 or less these days. No cellular but you don't need that to fly anyway

Not having the physical home button on the Nvidia just takes getting use to but the pop up on the bottom of the screen is alright to deal with

WOW, I think you just made me did on it more. In the GO app I always had to hit the home button on the app and then I could exit the app.
Now I see swiping up brings up the menu. Can't believe I didn't even see that.

I have both tabs and I much prefer the Nvidia and as I've mentioned in other posts, I've got the Nushield anti-glare film and most times, I don't even use the sunshade (made myself to fit the Shield) in most situations unless it's high noon with no shade around.

Of course it can track you.  Dji has implanted a tracking device in you.  The P4 ALWAYS knows where you are.  It watches you while you sleep.  There is a price to pay for getting early access to all the new toys.  Bwahahaha!!

I bought an antiglare screen for my old Shield and it didn't do much of anything.
I'll have to check one of these out, thanks again.
