Can anyone tell me if Inspire 1 can fly within red restricted areas outside of the DJI GO app, eg using the AutoFlight Logic Autopilot App? Or are these no fly zones built into the aircraft's firmware?

In my experience, it's firmware.  I've used third party apps and found the no-fly zones are still in effect.

Think of the GO app as a map/template that lays over the FW to give you the locations of the no-fly zones programed into the FW.

However, do not assume all of the no-fly zones are active.  A lot of the no-fly zones (in my experience) are only displayed on the app and are not present in the FW.

You cannot override the red areas on the map even in the GEO fence program.

ah...with the firmware, then yeah, no way around that.  I need to look at some of the area's around here for the 24 hour unlock.  Have you used it?  If so, how easy was it?  Do you get approval/pass type of information  in case the people give us a hard time? (as usual...lol)
