Nice toy! I love how smooth it lands  instead of hitting the drone against the ground .   I would plat around with it whenever i'm lazy to hit the RTH button

Yes, but snagging the props would lead to a burned out motor/esc or two before it shut down.

Another thought, the camera lens has a fisheye look to it and seems this was taken with a GoPro type camera. I am not convinced this is a DJI aircraft

A particularly stupid thing to do, agreed.  What we in Australia call a dickhead.  Another nail in the coffin of the enjoyment and income potential of many here.
Not good journalism either.   Journalists in general would be well advised to keep away from mathematics and science if they have no prior experience or knowledge in the field, or just didn't do well at it when at school so chose journalism instead
.
" ... consumer drones can only be flown to a maximum height of 500ft (1.5m) ... "

Now - that is a bit of a serious metric height limit that would mean chest injuries, but the conversion and editing is just sloppy.  Puts any other supposed facts or details in doubt for me.
As for the make,  sorry everybody but stop the video at 1:22 to see: oh dear.
Also, I am fairly sure that my X3 would bend the horizon a little from stupidly high up and thereby any equivalent camera might too.

Farn,

I had one of those bad boy toys when I was a kid.  It was called a Johny Seven, if I recall right.

Just no fun these days, my kids just sit in front of their xbox.

Agreed though, all these stunts do nothing but add fuel to Aviation Authorities imposing stricter regulations, not to mention teh risk and endangerment to commercial airlines etc.

Farn,

I had one of those bad boy toys when I was a kid.  It was called a Johny Seven, if I recall  ...

It reminded me of an early butane powered potato cannon I once made.
I didn't have a fancy laser rangefinder on it though...
