And remember, the RTH only sends the aircraft home if it is further than 20m from the homepoint.
So if you test it within 20m it will just descend where it's at.

Also, as you showed you do not need the app to fly the aircraft at all, it's only required when it's brand new and needs to be activated.

Before there was an app, on the old Phantoms I used to show people how awesome RTH was by turning off the RC and setting it on the ground.

Many people have lost their aircraft in the water by not knowing it will not RTH unless further than 20m.

No I don't know why it's setup like that.

Aircraft automatically descends and lands if RTH is triggered when the aircraft  iess within a 20 meters (65 feet) radius of the Home Point. Aircraft will stop ascending and immediately return to the Home Point if you move the throttle stick if the aircraft reaches 20 meters (65 feet) altitudes or beyond during Failsafe.

Cheers mate, just interested, if it is a source of crashes might be something to look at. I do see quite a few videos where take of is near a lake or cliff edge. I do a fair few take-offs within 20m of the edge of large open cut pits, but can't see why I'd initiate a RTH so close unless there was a complete failure of the RC unit .

A lot of people fly the battery down too low and it will start a RTH. It gives you 10 seconds to cancel it and head home. But some people panic and freeze up and just watch it descend into the water.
