I'm going to install a "saddlebag" for my Marco Polo receiver

http://www.uavbits.net/products/marco-polo-saddlebag

This involves loosening both legs on my P3A. I want to use some type of thread locker on the screws but I've seen that blue loctite damages the plastic so no go there. I've heard that there's a plastic friendly version of loctite but I haven't seen it at my local Home Depot.

I've also seen that people use nail polish as a thread locker but no details as to a brand or type that should be used.

I found a product called Permatex that is supposed to be plastic friendly and is meant for auto repair. Has any one used this?

http://www.permatex.com/products ... threadlocker-detail

I'm also considering installing a set of strong arms so whatever I choose would need to stand up to the force of the motors.

Or am I just being paranoid and shouldn't use a thread locker of any type?

Any thoughts?

Be very, very, very careful with the locktite and which brand/if any you use...some will ruin the plastic for sure!!....Read up on what Red has said so your drone is not otherwise FORD!!

Use Thread-Lock for sure, there is just to much vibration on these,  must use it.  I prefer the Loctite Brand , I have had good success with it, just use it sparingly.  Do Not use Nail Polish.

Good Luck and Have Fun.  I would have gone with the Trackimo but that's me.

All the best to you and yours-donnie

You can read the blurb, and decide for yourself.

Thanks Donnie. So you've used the 425 without issue? Do you apply it to the thread and then screw it in immediately or apply it to the thread, let it dry and then screw in?

Thanks Red. I read through the specs and It seems okay but I also want to hear to "real world" experiences with the Phantom's plastic. It's  just the "nervous nelly" in me...

Certainly can appreciate your being apprehensive and there is nothing wrong with that. Especially when we are detailing a $1000 piece of plastic. ;-)
I hope you can find the info needed to proceed. You might have better luck, posting this loctite question on RCGroups. ;-)
With a wider variety of RC hobbiests interests, over there.

While assembling my Align TRex 700E DFC HV, (an Align towel came with the kit) there is a procedure.
So, first clean the screw good with 99% isopropanol, then dip just the last few threads of the screw in the loctite, then wipe it on the towel.
You really only want a small amount of the adhesive, between the screw threads, and not on the exterior, if that makes sense.
Half of my loctite is imbedded on the towel. ;-) if you ever need to remove a locked screw, there is a solution.
Most loctite will soften with heat, and if you can't use a hot air gun, utilize a hot soldering tip, on the screw to help loosen it.

Yes , I just place a small  amount on the screw itself and blot off any excess,  Then just screw it in, easy peasy lemon squeezy.  I like  RH Pokers  ( His Avatar gives me Nightmares) procedure of cleaning the threads first as well.

"Purple Lock tight"

The colour isn't a specification or grade of Loctite.  Almost all Loctite products will stop screws coming loose.  The correct ones will allow removal if needed.

UMM... yes color is.

and for the last 30 Years I'm aware of...Color has always been related to the type of strength/Grade of lock tight

you obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

There's no need to be abusive, I didn't say the colour wasn't related.

You can't go into a shop & ask for purple threadlocker & expect to get the right one.

If you want the correct Loctite, you need the reference number, like Loctite 425 for use on plastic.  There are 20 different threadlockers on the Loctite website, but only 4 colours.

425  might very well  be the cats meow.... Most of my locals Hardware store's do not carry it.  from years of goofing with it i don't think much about it anymore.

If I want low strength and removable i grab the purple stuff...

If i want permanent.... I grab a bottle of the red stuff. whatever is on the shelf and is best suited to that I'm doing at the time.

I would by some 425 if it was available....... but i haven't had any ill effects with the purple stuff thus far.

I think a lot of issues are caused by over application.....

good luck to everyone and safe flying!
