I recently took a chance on a set of 37mm macro filters made by Polaroid for some close up work on my osmo. They work very well with only the slightest of movement on the thread. If anybody's interest here's the Amazon link. Happy filming.

I did. It's tricky to hold it steady so close up but had good results.

Good to know about these lenses! I would only need to get just under the 3 foot limit when shooting pieces to camera, so not ultra close then! There isn't a danger of stripping the thread is there, if the lens isn't exactly the right fit?
With the latest upgrade and the ability to zoom in slightly, it means that one could get rid of the wide-angle distortion that happen when shooting close to people as well.

They've arrived and so far I've only used the +1 diopter. It's very good indeed. I was able to get a good=size MCU in perfect focus at distance of 2 feet. By using the digital zoom at a value of 1.5, I could get rid of the wide-angle close-up look.
I would recommend however using a tiny piece of gaffer tape or something to make sure that the lens stays in place if you tilt down. The threads don't quite match, but there's no danger of them stripping.

This a general lens question.......does having a lens on the Osmo give you better quality shots? Is there a sort of "all around" filter that can be kept on there for all purpose pictures/videos?

As with any camera, you choose the lens/filter to suit the shot. You might choose an ND filter to keep your exposure within the range that will give the ideal shutter speed and/or ISO rating. Same with lenses - a closeup lens will allow you to get closer to the subject without losing focus. So, to answer your question, there is no ideal lens to keep on the camera that will be an universal catch-me-all.
Other than maybe the U/V filter, which will at least offer a degree of protection to the camera lens.

Hi,
It's great to know about it.
Can you show us a video with and without the lenses?
Do you know if there are lenses of this kind that can acheive more magnification ? In the amazon link you shared here, there is 77 mm lense. do you think it will be suitable for the osmo?
I want to be able to use the osmo also from a distance. its the main disadvantage of this device to my opinion, other than the lack of sound monitoring.
thanks..

Hi,
What magnification size you got with the lenses? could you make somthing around tele or mid regular lenses?
Is it not disturbing the operation of the gimbal? make it harder on it?

I would appriciate if you could show a video using it.
thanks a a lot.

It won't make the image any larger or smaller - merely allow you to get closer to the subject. I've only used the +1 lens so far. The danger with the Osmo is that any movement on close subjects tend to show up as unacceptable camera movement - I suppose if the Osmo was placed on its tripod, you could then get steady closer shots with just a pan or tilt. As I said before, it you need to get a tighter shot, there is the new digital zoom feature, but you will need to use it wisely or the image will degrade a lot...Now, if the digital zoom worked in the 4K setting, then that would be very useful!
The closeup lens is not much heavier that the supplied ND filter, so it doesn't seem to affect the operation of the gimbal.

Thnks for your replay.
In any camera, good close up movement is hard to  achieve. not just the osmo.
So there is no way to get magnification on the osmo besides the ditgital zoom..? if you shoot with tripod on steady object, you can make the zoom on the post. how much magnification you can get from 4k 720 to your opinion?

I can see you know what you are talking about so i have few more quastions if you may....

1. is there a way to monitor incoming audio in new firmware? audio stiil not being transmitted to the phone?

2. does the new firmware audio level is too low in your device as well? not usable? even with wirelles receiver attached?

3. in 4k recording, there is a gap of time the device subtruck part of the video when it changes the file after it reached its maximum size? if so? how serious it is? its only on 4k?

4. how is the osmo handels focusing with the diopter? can you do manual focus?

thanks a lot.
Moshe.

hopefully my video should be online now.

Thanks for uploading that video - very comprehensive. I would have liked to have seen it in 1080 however, rather than the very low rez.
I think that it also shows that the Osmo is no better than any other camera for handheld movement on close-ups!

Are these good for achieving a more artsy look to regular videos?  Not necessarily for items 6 inches in front of the lens, but like if you were doing an interview with someone or filming a large room with the object of interest only 5 - 10 feet away from you and what's beyond have a slight blur.

How do you check to be sure if you have good focus?

Have you tried this for selfie mode and could you post a video? Just curious if I were to use these for selfie mode then I could be in focus without being 41" from the lense and eliminate the need for the extension handle?? I realize this makes the background out of focus as well but I think that would be ok in most situations and I would rather be in focus with background blurred than the opposite... I still can't believe the Osmo requires 41" distance to lense for focus when there's a 3 tap function for selfie mode. Smh
