Hey guys,

Quick question regarding altitude. I read conflicting reports everywhere regarding how high the DJI P3 Standard can go, both legally and its actual ability.

I was out today and when I got to around 400 ft it said that was the max but I could change some settings? Is that correct? And if so, how much farther can it go? Some places I read 1,500 ft.

Also, what is legal max altitude? Most things I read are about 400 (hence why that's why I was locked from going higher).

Any insight into this would be helpful. Thanks.

The Phantom has a user adjustable height limit.
If you turn it off the Phantom will go to 500 metres above launch point.

Just because you can do somthing does not mean it's wise to do so..... The 500m limit is extremely helpful if you live in a mountainous area..(planes don't fly at this altitude in these areas)
If folks routinely start flying 1300' in normal aircraft airspace then you can bet that DJI will limit this feature for all of us.
3DR has already set a hard limit at 400' in the USA..... They are a flop partly due to this.

Thats not true. You can fly higher than 400 feet. It os a guideline, (recommendation) not a law.

is this for real ?  i heard a lot of people from USA that  are scare about uploading videos flying at let say 200 meters of altitude because they don't want troubles with the FAA

so you are saying that is not a law is just a recommendation and everyone can fly over 500 meters ?

I live in a mountainous  areas and 500 meters is not enough at all ,  all the volcanoes and mountains here are higher than 2.5 km   , i want at least 1.5 km  to fly near to a volcano and thats not dangerous because planes doest fly around volcanoes

Hi all, Is there any forum where DJI explains why did they set that limit?. I think it is totally random and nonsense; I do a lot of Mountain video and need at least 1km height but it can't due to their stupid restriction.

The height restriction is based on 500m above your take off point (=home point =0m)

Yes, in fact, under some circumstances it will be more secure to fly over 500m..

I'm happy with 500m even flying over mountainous terrain as any further it would be out of visual line of sight for me. It needs to be visible to the unaided eye on the UK by law.

Flyin'Bryan is right. This is the latest of what the FAA says about operating drones / hobby UAS:
In ...

"Individuals flying for hobby or recreation are strongly encouraged to follow safety guidelines"

Notice the phrases " strongly encouraged" and "safety guidelines"

The same type of advice applies to running while holding scissors, it doesn't really say it's illegal.

I'm sure this has been covered before too but take an example of flying up the side of a mountain and you reach 500 meters which is the limit from take off point.........You still have good visual on the tablets screen and you find a good spot to land. You then shut down the motors and log off the Go app. You turn the app back on and wait for the settings to stabilize. Will the app show this new location to be at ground zero and you can go another 500 meters up?

Im curious of this as well. I believe it's the measured distance between the AC and the RC.  I'm doubting it will work but willing to try next flight.
