Using a phone is nearly useless. If thats not possible how about a switch in the osmo app to do a 360 degree rotation at a specified speed while recording video?

Could you please explain more to us for a better understanding?

I was attempting to do 2 different shots, one was on a tripod inside of a car to get a smooth 360. Using the phone app is too sensitive to control the pan and tilt accurately. Another shot was a 360 on a 6 food monopod. Having a handheld controller with a similar joystick as on the handle would make smooth 360s for these shots easy.

Also the pan within the app is cumbersome...

The smoothness of the movement of the camera controlled by hand in the DJI GO App depends on the users' operation. Please note that the distance between the blue circle and the middle dot implies the speed of the motion of the camera, the father the distance is, the faster the camera will move.
If you wanna shoot a 360 panorama, you can find this feature at the left icon list on the App screen.
