Interesting, maybe it is the asphalt surface making a giant reflector, On the next flight try moving  the  antennas in the middle of that flat square surface . I'd wait for the wife to be out shopping or something.

You have lost me on that one bud!

Now you just need a swivel chair with the back legs longer than the front legs.  Modified barstool or something.  Small portable cooler with a suitable beverage inside and a sunshade.  If you have enough batteries,  you could spend the whole day in comfort while flying.

How do you bring it to a different flying sight?

I suspect that his house has a metal roof. Common in the USA to make it hurricane proof. That's a big reflector.

I don't know why people keep talking about reflectors. The higher up you are=less interference and better connection to the drone.

Metal roofs are not hurricane proof. Not even close.

That's pretty cool. I could also do that but all is good until you make the wrong step or turn and are laying in the hospital with a broken arm or whatever! LOL Just funning around with you all. I have also noticed if you can get up off the ground a bit it does make a big difference.

i dont know either, only reason i did this was for fun!!! my friend lives 2 miles away and dared me to fly the p3 from my house to his. since i have tall trees in the back yard and houses behind me i couldnt get a good signal past 1/2 mile so i went on top of the roof for a clear los at 400feet up and managed to get to his house 2.14 miles away.
nothing to do with reflection off the roof, which by the way is asphalt and not metal.
reflection that is not concentrated towards the p3 wouldnt help any at all, fyi.

This doesn't show how far you went though does it?

I see the total flight distance and I guess it's pretty easy to see that we should just chop this number in half by looking at the flight line but what was the actual longest distance you achieved?

Yes, there are those that push the envelope.

That is such a range improvement, DJI should include one with the Phantoms.

Nice range extender! Allows for the inspection of house hold items while still giving you the ability to be outside enjoying yourself.

Watch being on the fiberglass shingles when it gets warm, as they get really soft. The fall won't hurt you, but that abrupt stop at the end sucks.

I am a little surprised that the ridge vent wasn't capped over with shingles.

I built my shop two years ago and used an architectural shingle and enough other qualifying products to get a 50 year warranty. They really dress up a house, or in your case aerial observation deck.

Yeah, I had the same idea (plus, I don't have to worry about a wife carping at me) so I put up a deer stand to make it easier to get that extra altitude.  I posted this photo previously but it seemed relevant to the topic.
