Capturing a still from video versus taking pictures

When I take video I can capture a photo from anywhere in the footage and so I can take my time at home and select the best frames from all the footage. If the video is 4K and when taking a picture at 4k would I be correct in saying the quality of a capture from video should be the same. I know on photo mode I can have specific picture settings but if we can just ignore that for the moment. I have tried both and cannot see any difference between a capture and a photo.

There will always be a difference.
Shoot 4K video and your frame size = 4096 x 2160 = 8.8 MP
Shoot stills and your image size is 4000 x 3000 = 12 MP
Yes, you can take frames from video but it won't match the image quality you can get shooting stills.

There's also a lot of compression in video to allow it to capture so many frames per second, so information is lost & you get various artefacts.

It really depends what you're happy with

And add to that the fact that a still image can be shot in RAW mode, and the still quality will be way better than a grab for a video clip.
