Why does my video get blurry?

So I got a ND 8 on, flying on manual, 100/60. And the video gets blurry and unfocused, and then focused and so on and so forth. I can't figure it out. Here's a link. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is caused by the compression used on Skypixel, and the whispy trees are not helping either. But in the end, we have no idea what Skypixel does to a piece of footage, whereas with Youtube it is a pretty known quantity. Try putting the same clip up on Youtube and see what it looks like.

BTW, you should not be using an ND8 in that situation, is is not bright sun, and shooting into the sun like that is only going to make the picture darker.

No it's not sky pixel. Looking on the app before I even up load it, it's the same way.

And an nd8 is better than nothing. It got me way closer to the preferred iso and frame rate than it did with it off.

Everything about that shot I liked except that it kept blurring out randomly. Like it was adjusting.

What app? Are you editing in the DJI Go app and uploading from there? You should take the card out and import directly to your computer. Edit and upload from there. Also, I agree with Geebax. Definitely not an ND filter situation.

Hello kirkd1989, it would be better if you can post a original video using UV filter here.

Probably not the problem but, do you have the same problem without the ND filter? Filter elements can affect quality substantially depending on the quality.

I record it and as soon as I watch on my app before even disconnecting aircraft or anything lol, it does that. Why dot I use a nd here? Without it was over exposed to nearly everything, with it I got closer to the preferred shutter rates and such.

I don't think you guys see what I'm talking about. It's nothing to do with uploading bc before I cut it on the dji app or anything it does the unfocus thing.

Well yeah, that's the point. Quality is never as good as it should be when I view videos on the app. Extract the video from the SD card and post the actual file.

I understand 100% what you are saying. Please extract the video and post it straight from the SD card. Don't compress it to any websites, just post the link to a Dropbox file so we can see it in its raw. That way we can tell for sure what the problem might be. You can say all you want that it's not the app, but until we see the raw file, we can't be sure. Apps and wireless connectivity can do strange things. We are trying to help, but you aren't complying with requests.

Well it's playing back in skypixel @ 720p. So was it recorded on the sd @ 720p, or was this the 720p recording from the RC  ? Why not record @ 4k ?

The blurring looks like the data compression applied either by the Phantom to the images or by skypixel or both is messing things up.

You could always try a rerun without ND filter and camera on automatic and compare.

Your camera is set up to allow for shooting directly into the Sun, so all else will be darker, hence the compression errors ?

Here is another video. Same day 10 min later. No filter. Flying away from sun. It still unfocuses a couple times but not as bad. https://www.skypixel.com/pilot/videos/share/i-have-a-dream-2c30165d-3c27-49e0-ae01-90b3b02933f7?account=kirkd1989

So yeah, it definitely looks like app and device compression. Link us to the Dropbox with just the video file from the SD card so we can tell. I have a 4K monitor and will be able to see if it looks good or if something else is wrong.

Videos are taken on your phantom and stored on your sd card. All of that is not connected to your controller by any wires. Wireless transmission loses quality. I could go into detail for you, but I'll save you the boredom.

Because you had the camera pointed into direct sunlight. The only thing that was exposed properly was the sun. Everything else was way too dark. I would avoid direct sunlight and concentrate on exposing the scene correctly, instead of the ball of fire in the sky. Can add a graduated filter in post.

Well, that's fine as long as you don't care what the ground areas look like. In any event, it is not a shot where you use an ND filter.

New video today. Same time of day. Same lighting. No filter. Still does the auto focus thing. Weird.

Can you please post a link to the original file on Dropbox, anything anyone says without looking at the original file is just speculation. The 'focus thing' has nothing to do with focus, it is a compression artifact called Macro Blocking, and is is going to be there whether you use an ND filter or not.
