The auto brake feature is for beginners mainly.
It uses more battery rather than just letting the drone glide.
Letting the drone glide in clear air lets a single pilot get a moving shot easier using the yaw of the camera.

The brake feature is really not for beginners.... it is a feature while in GPS mode that helps you maintain position while you are flying, I have mine set at 70( is the lowest setting).

If you want to glide your Inspire, put it into Att mode and the Inspire will do exactly what you need during flight.

You can turn it down all the way and the stop will not be abrupt.

So atti mode will disable the auto brakes?

Yes, but it won't GPS hold position. When you throttle back, it will keep going at its current course and speed.
