A simple question that I've haven't found the answer to so far. If you are bringing the bird down from altitude and you pull the throttle all the way back, will that trigger a power off? I would like to assume that there is a built in safe guard against such a thing but certainly don't want to find out by trying it in flight. TIA

It will not power down. The I1 detects vertical motion and will only power down if you hold the stick down while it is no longer descending. Only way to shut it off mid-flight is to initiate CSC command.

Thanks. Very nice to know but I'm still not sure if I want to test it out. Slow descents are not a terrible thing.

It isn't an issue - full down stick works perfectly.
Not a risk, designed to work this way.

As above full throttle down captain works a treat, don't worry I was cautious the first time. Had the same settings on my DX8 controller, never a issue.

Just wondering if anyone was crazy enough to CSC  and start it back up while in uncontrolled decent.

Correct, as the others have said lowering the throttle all the way during descent will NOT shut off the motors in flight. So not to worry.

Hey Ken, what about full descent and fly backwards, meaning both sticks down ?

That's fine too as long as you keep the sticks close to center and NOT towards the corner.

I highly recommend you (notice I said you lol) pull the sticks \ /. I'm curious if you can regain control during freefall

I am convinced that if you are high enough and you  (you) shut the motors off it is possible to restart and regain control before your bird smashes into the deck.

Only one way to find out. Let us know how you get on.

You can do it in the simulator and it takes a few hundred feet to recover.
BUT, in the real world who knows, but I wouldn't try it.

Wait until the Inspire 2 ships, someone will try it with their old Inspire 1.

So the final analysis is that it is possible to shut it down while in flight. With all the  wonderful tech built into these birds, seems like a simple thing to implement so it doesn't happen without two or three "Are your Sure that's what you want to do"s. As you can rightfully assume, I'm overly cautious as this is a tool and not a toy for me. My descents will get a little faster but that's about it. lol

Well.... I can't picture a scenario where you would move both sticks to the bottom center or bottom right while in flight? So I think you are safe. I've brought mine down from a little over 300' at full speed and then slowly let off the stick as it got closer to the ground. You shouldn't have a problem. So as long as you don't do the aforementioned you will be fine. Your bird will not fall on it's own without a catastrophic failure.
