What platform do you use? Mac, PC, iOS, Android? Do you have previous experience editing? There are lots of different options depending on your platform and experience and desire to get into editing.

Premiere Pro for me but be warned it costs big $ and to work well needs a powerful PC.

If you are using an iPad , iMovie wors well. It's basic but very easy to use and makes some nice clips.

Don't know why I didn't try iMovie.  Glad you mentioned it.  I'd tried a couple others to much frustrations.  Maybe I'll try them again after a while, but just played with iMovie for a bit, and worked great for what I wanted.

I use CyberLink Power Director Pro on my PC. I think it's about $65 for the suite as a download. Quite a lengthy download. Options range from easy to difficult. Pretty powerful tools. Can compile lots of file types and upload directly to Facebook or YouTube.

I just started using Filmora. I's easy to use and can do more than I would even think of doing right now. It's also fast at rendering finished video in all types of formats, for all devices.

I use Corel VideoStudio X9, Cyberlink Movie Director, and Microsoft Movie Maker - it depends on the project and its target audience (or deadline) ... they each have their own advantages, but also their own way of doing things.  Just takes time to get used to them.

I'm using Final Cut Pro X on a 27" iMac i7quad with 32g or ram, cuts through the 4k stuff pretty good IMHO.  I also have an older (late 2012) Macbook Pro with 16gb of ram, it works ok with the 4k material albeit a little slower than the iMac but still gets the job done with FCPX.

Premiere is a great product and used by a lot of people so it's easy to find tutorials. If (for now) you're trying to save some money here are 5 free programs.

If you are using a MAC Final Cut Pro X is the best in my opinion. Check Jim Hare's Tutorials, that is what he uses. It is very easy to work with and a powerful program.

I have been using Premiere Pro for nearly 10 years. For the past four years a PC with 8GB of ram, a 4 way processor and a moderately priced video card have been sufficient but not fast.  Now that I have started processing 4K video that PC was not sufficient.  I recently purchased a new PC from Puget Systems with 32GB of ram, a 6 way xeon processor (12 logical processors), a GTX 980 TI video card, and two solid state hard drives.  What a difference... Finally not having to wait hours for rendering a relatively short video file.  Nothing like a little horsepower to work with 4K video.

I have been using FCPX from the week that bit came out and it is brilliant I edit on a 2010  27" iMac 12gig ram quad core, and I also use my 6month old MacBookPro 3.7 turbo to 4.1 GHz processor 16 gig of ram, 2 gig video card 1 terabyte internal hard drive and store and edit from 2 1 terabyte Samsung SSDs and this actually is faster than my 27" so now that I am editng a lot of 4K I tend to use the MacBook more.

I use a combination of Adobe After Effects CS6 and Premier Pro CS6. After Effects allows me a whole lot more control when colour grading and applying advanced effects or filters.

I would love to use After Effects but since retiring I can't afford it.  Not liking Adobe since they went to leased only software and their customer service is also slipping.

I hardly use After Effects anymore, and usually just do everything in Final Cut Pro X now. Granted there are certain things I can only do inside After Effects. For basic video editing, FCPX or Adobe Premiere.
